Do you think i can afford to move out?
well...not this very second, but within the next year or so? right now, I make about $31,000 a year (before taxes)....i take home about $1720/month.

my expenses are as follows...as of now (living at home).

car --> $235/mo.
car insurance --> $200/month
cell phone --> $80/month

Do you think i'd be able to move out comfortably...? The cheapest apartment you can get around here is prob. around $800 a month - MAYBE $700 if i get lucky...any thoughts, suggestions??

Take home pay $1720
Expenses $515
Funds Available $1205

Do you have first and last months rent saved?
Do you have a deposit saved? Sometimes the deposit is your last months rent. Sometimes it is in addition to first and last months rent.
Renters Insurance - I highly recommend it. Runs around $50-$100 a month
Utilities...will the apartment include utilities or not? Some don't. If not, you are could estimate around $150-$200 for gas/electric/water/sewer/trash.
Are you going to get a Lan line/Internet connection? If so, add $50-$100 a month
What about TV - Satelite/cable? This could run anywhere from $50-$100 a month.
Groceries - $100 a month
Gas for your car - $100-$150 a month.
Laundry - $20 week

So - say you find an apartment for $700 a month with utilites, no renters insurance and the minimum payment on all other expenses totalling - $1080

That leaves you with $125 a month for savings.

Mind you this does not include any money spent for eating out, movies, shopping, etc.

Sit down and figure out a budget - it will tell you if you can afford it.
Right now I would say no. Unless you have money saved for emergencies - car breaking down, etc....
What about credit cards. You didn't list any but are you planning on getting one?
How long have you been at your job? What if you lose your job? Do you have anything to fall back on.
Also, I would check into getting a different car insurance $200 a month is extremely high. Unless you are considered a high risk.
Will the apartment be furnished with appliances? Some don't.
These are all things you need to take into consideration before you take that big step. My suggestion would be to save as much as you can for the next year and go from there.

Good Luck

Edit - Also, you need to think about the first time items you would need. Pots, pans, TV, Utensils, vacume cleaner, dishes, etc. You could start looking into investing in these items now while saving for the next year. This way when you move out you won't have a large expense for items you would need right away.

You may need to cut back on some things. You can get cheaper cell phone plans and your car insurance is outrageous! Why are you paying so much?? Look into cheaper insurance! I have an 18 year old with full coverage that only pays $100 a month since she was 16.

Since you have no housing expenses now why haven't you been saving some of that money toward and apartment of your own?

IF you have not been saving then you might want to rethink your plans because you will be close each month and if you an't save now and are spending will you spend the rent money before you even know it?

Sandy Sandals
Not really, not unless you get a roommate

800 rent
235 car
200 insurance (that's high - you need to shop around)
80 cell
150 utilities

equals 1465, leaving you $255 each month for food, gas, and other expenses.

Sure, if you want to. Go for it.

It will be tough. You will have other expenses like utilities and food that will cost an additional few hundred a month.

Get a room mate. You need to have some sort of savings plan. My advice to you would be for you to get a room mate and share an apartment. Yes, you could go from paycheck to paycheck going solo, but you need to consider saving some money otherwise, you won't have a back-up plan for emergencies.

What??? You have a perfect deal at home and you cannot bear to be with your parents. Instead of you moving into an apt -- find a boy friend who has the livable shelter and take some clothes and move in....Then when you get bored and tired you can take the clothes and move back.home... Or get another boy friend.....
