I think that if you pay the bill it's your property and they can't take it away, but my mom wouldn't think so, like when she read my diary, that i bought (guess it isn't the same as your sitch, but I'm trying to help :( ) she said she could read i because it was in her house. But still i t's your property, but it depends on what you did to make them take it. |

I think your parents have the right to take that phone and just about any other luxury you have, even if you are paying it yourself. As long as you live in your parents' home, they own the very air you breathe.
Sure sounds like you did something irresponsible. Are you on that phone constantly? Not keeping your grades up? Violate curfew? |

Yes. They are your parents, and the phone is in their name, not yours. You are not an adult and therefore cannot assume full legal and financial responsibility for the phone.
If, for example, you didn't pay your bill and the phone company demanded the money, the company would have to deal with a legal adult (your parent) and not a minor (you).
So yes, legally, they can and should take away the phone if they feel it is in your best interest.
Also, there's something you're not telling us here. WHY did they take the phone away? Were you neglecting your chores or studies? Were you racking up more charges than your allowance could pay? Were you talking to people you shouldn't be talking to?
Calm down and try to reason with your parents.
P.S. That's totally fair. A phone is a privilege, not a right. If you can't keep your grades up, then you shouldn't have such distracting elements like phone or TV. Hit the books, redo the assignment/test/class, and then hand your parents a passing grade and ask for your phone back. |

NO! it is FAIR! Because Imagine if youre phone was taken away at school. Just because youre the owner doesnt mean the teacher will give it back to you. They will call youre parents and pick it up. In this case you would love youre parents. SO SAME THING! |

I think your parents' reaction to your getting a D was perfect. If you cannot keep your grades up, then you should devote more time to studying and less time to talking on the phone. And if you're working to earn the money to pay for your phone, perhaps you're spending too much time working and not enough studying -- another reason to make you get rid of the phone.
You're getting to the age where the grades you're earning will be looked at by prospective colleges. You need to concentrate on what's really important. |
