As Leslie Ash was infected by MRSA in the hospital the hospital is definitely liable.
On the question of compensation that will always depend on the circumstances. My understanding is that she has been unable to work as a result of the infection and that at the time she went into the hospital her earnings were at an extremely high level. If because she has lost the chance of continuing to receive income at that level, then she is perfectly in her rights to expect compensation of £5m.
If you had an accident that was not your fault and because of it you lost a considerable amount of earnings you would expect to be compensated for all the losses you incurred, so why shouldn't she. |

i asked this q yesterday, i think it's absolutly ridiculous she should donate some of that to the nhs. |

I agree especially as the NHS is struggling to start with and patients are getting refused cancer treatments because of the cost. |

Most of it is accounting for lost wages. I don't know, I agree with you, it's all about greed. Good question. Here is an article about it. I had to look it up to see what you were even asking about. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/itn/20080117/tuk-leslie-ash-compensation-sets-record-dba1618.html |

Far too greedy, With her blotched botox lips she was unlikely to find work anyway.
Netherless she should, have had herself insured for her career. They all do these days(unless she did and hidden the truth)
Our boys fighting, who lost limbs, the MRSA victims, the wives who have lost the husbands in Iraq, and kids who lost they're dads, The Iraq's who lost there family's.
£5.000.000...............................
They above would never get that. its straight on to disability allowance for them, Well not for the Iraq's sorry worst for them
....worst than all the above. |

No I think she got the super bug because of them therefore she deserves to be compensated I believe that if any one else gets the bug & they do not get at least a similar compensation settlement (maybe not quite so big as they don't earn so much so wont be loosing as much money from not working) but I still believe if she gets that much the compensation pay should at least be half that for a non celeb |

From what I can gather its from the insurance company not the NHS thats why we have insurance. The hospital did wrong and she lost a posible famous future.
I feel for her as I feel for anyone who has suffered, she just had more money to battle for justice than the normal joe does. Hopefully this will set a presidence. If a company does wrong they have to pay the cost! If a train company was negligent and people died you'd receive compensation and its the same for the NHS. |

I agree with "the other..". It is legally fair as she probably has lost a lot of earning potential, but morally perhaps she should donate a proportion to charity or a local hospital. It depends how rich she actually is, of course. Another point is that rumours are that she actually went to hospital because of self inflicted injuries (due to kinky frolicking in the bedroom!) so if she hadn't have inflicted the injuries she wouldn't have been in hospital.... |

Nope i dont think its fair and it is greedy, but it is accurate legally. She most likely has lost £5m considering shes an actress and she's been out of work for 4 years, but it think the nhs would put that money to better use than she ever could unless she has plans to donate it somewhere or use it to set up a chairty |

MSSA is not MRSA. MSSA lives on the skin, and is not related to unclean hospitals. Ash most likely contracted the infection in her home environment. Given that epidurals are not standard procedure for her injuries, it is likely that she requested one, and was fully warned about all risks. |
