wave | Do you think its right that you have to pay to use your own money? |
I sure as hell don't. Hmmm let me think; my money that I worked hard for, should I have to pay £1.50 for the privilage of using it? hmm no me thinks not. Is it at all convienient for me to spend £1.50 for using my money and in the process be taxed for it an made £1.50 worse off? hmm -No the answer is still NO.
Heres an idea, howe about instaed of me getting off my 'lazy' butt (I work very hard by the way, no pretending to work in some desk office job) and going to a non-charge cash machine (I live in the middle of no where by the way where there are few such cash machines)or not using banks at all, how about cash machines just don't charge you for your own cash - simple everyones happy. Do I understand that companies providing such services require an income -yes, do I care if they only make small profits -hell no. Tbh I think such charges should be passed on to the shop or public houses that the machines are placed in. Additional Details IT appears americans do not get this problem. I still don't think its ok or right for the charges. And anyone who says why not keep the money under my mattress? well how about NO because my wages don't get paid in cash like most of the rest of the modern world, there is a thing called TAX!!!!!!!!!!!!! you know where the government screws you as well. So basically the cash under bed scenario is not happening, I need a bank as I am a law abiding tax paying citizen. Geees. |

I agree completely and I am in a similar situation to you - no banks in this village, and no free cash machines. I don't drive either so whenever I want my cash I have to take the bus if I want free access to my cash (so end up paying out anyway) or walk if I have nothing left to pay the fare lol - lose lose situation for me - win win situation for all these nice little shops that rob us of our money.
The alternative? The cash back system, but guess what, we have to pay for that too!!
Also noticed recently that they all seem to be nudging their charges up little by little.
To all those who say "my bank doesn't charge" - the banks don't own most of these machines - they are owned by private companies - so ALL users tend to get charged not just users from certain banks.
As for the posting about everyone losing their jobs if we didn't pay these charges - we managed before we had them - oh wait a minute we had local banks back then didn't we - they all lost their jobs only to eventually be replaced by these machines. - There is an alternative to this too - some banks let you bank free at the post office - then again these are closing down rapidly too. |

My bank does not charge me for using my own money, so it seems to me you are using the wrong bank. Do your research and join a different bank that will give you the service you want at the price you are willing to pay. |

Yes. Maybe you'd rather keep your money under your matress instead. If you didn't pay the ATM fees, maybe the company that makes the ATM machines would go bankrupt. Maybe if the banks stopped charging fees they'd lose money and have to lay people off. Unemployment would rise. Your taxes would rise because you'd be supporting them now. It's called capitalism. It revolves around people paying money for services. If you don't want to pay the fee, don't use the machines. Simple as that. |

No its not. It shows the greed of financial institutions. They are the highway men of this generation. Blair said he would do something about it but like all his promises he lied. |

Oh boy! Do I agree with you on this one! Daylight robbery! Screw everyone for their last penny, that's their motto! But then, who doesn't in this country! No wonder in day's gone by folk used to stash it at home!! Perhaps we should go back to that ,then they would be f*****!! |

a. Why would any shop want an ATM machine if they ate the cost?
b. Go to your own damn ATM or bank and there will be no fee
c. Realize that you are paying a convenience charge to have the ability to access your money from anywhere
d. If you hate it that much than just hide it under your mattress and carry cash around all the time |

I never have paid for an atm, unwillingly..
my bank is paying me about 50$ a month in interest on my savings account, so it wouldn't matter anyhow.
Here's an idea, take out enough cash so you don't need to hit the atm every frigging ten minutes. or complain to the bank! walk into your local branch and withdraw that way.. |

I'm glad I'm not in the bind you are in!! We don't have to pay to use our money, unless we are going to an atm machine that doesn't belong to our bank. Then we have to pay $2 from the machine, and $2 from our bank. But this is easily solved. |

What choice have you got! How about you don't keep your money in the Bank? Or pay the £1.50? Or go to a cash machine that's free? Or go to the Bank and withdraw the money over the counter?
Either way, I think you should stop expecting a free ride, you get nothing for nothing in this world.
You work hard you say, do you work hard for free? Do you perform services for people without charge?
Do you shop? Do you use a supermarket? If so, why are you moaning, as most supermarkets let you have cashback free of charge. |

I don't know what it's like in the UK, but in Canada all banks charge every time you withdraw cash, and more every time you use your bankcard or a cheque. Credit card charges of course are worse, plus the retailer has to pay the credit card a percentage as well. Plus, we pay the government a six percent tax on most purchases, and most provinces have a seven percent tax in addition, PLUS income taxes are twenty to fifty percent and up, depending on your tax bracket. I don't know how we can buy anything. =( |
