You get your rent paid, by who?
Me and other tax payers.
Why should we have to work so that you have money to spend on yourself?

Hat-A-Tat-Tat!!
no...don't think like that mate or you will never get on in life...at least if you are working you will reach your goals one day & won't be stuck in a rut!

working always gives you options.

sure right now it is the same at the end of the month but the person that is working has something that the person staying home does not and that is the potential for more!

The working person can work his or her way up the ranks and command more money later, he also will have pride in doing a good job and setting an example for his or her kids.

I believe that there is much more value to the man or woman who attempts to work to accquire the things that he or she wants.

Work, work and work
instead of getting handouts.

Also
there is the vaule of self esteem that comes from working that the person getting the handout does not have

Yeah what's the point. Sit back and let others work for you,

If you want to be selfish about it, think about whether you want to spend the rest of your life as a poor parasite, or get out there and start making a living for yourself.

Champagne 3 suspended again !
Ever heard of a little thing called pride ?

Why should i, and other workers give people like you almost half of my wages ( 40% tax ) so you can do naff all ?

By the sounds of it your not in a very good job, try getting a job that you will enjoy and maybe get that little extra cash to spend on yourself. You don't really want to be on the dole for the rest of your life, and just sat at home not doing anything. Also money should be worked for not just given to you for not doing anything. Unless there was other circumstances.

Yeah a whooping 60.00 a week to spend all on yourself! Don't forget to pay your water, gas, electric buy food to eat, pay your tv license, clothes to wear. The lost is endless but the money is certainly not!! However I do agree that people who work should have more to show for it, thereby encouraging people to go to work, but don't assume that it is easy being on benefits. And no I don't claim benefits but I do work in the job centre.

Alot of it is dependant on how many hours you're doing. The government is trying to get people back to work so I would get a benefit to work calculation done so you can make an informed decision.

People are preaching to you here, forgetting that when it comes to wars like in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kossovo, Vietnam etc. etc. money is never the object. And ALL the multi millionaires in UK and US employ the best accountants and lawyers to find loop holes, to avoid paying a penny more in tax than they have to.

If you are really better off on the dole, then you would be a fool to work. But are you really better off? I think people on min. wage are still entitled to many benefits. Go to Citizens advice and ask. Good luck

better off on the dole. you'd have access to higher education, health insurance (not a problem for you 'cause you're not in the U.S.), and subsidized housing. Not to mention a few bucks for food.

At times, going on the dole is the best way to permanently escape a life of poverty. Self-esteem comes from a university education - not from washing dishes.

Mammy to chloe :D
you have a very very good point!

You work for your money and for what?? You get nothing in the end really. People on the dole are people who cant be bothered to get a job! Or people who are strugglin very hard to find a job, so why should the lazy ones have that money to spend on them seleves
