P.K.
Do you use online banking?
Is YOUR bank's online system easy/comprehensive?
Is it easy to do payment/ direct debits, etc?
Would you recommend your bank, generally?

I am going to change my bank, after having several problems with Abbey National, and am looking at a couple of possibilities.
I tend to do a lot of banking over the internet, so need one with a good online presence.

Thanks

Well my partner is with hsbc, and always does banking online, he alters direct debits and loans etc..it is really easy to use.... but I dont use it and I'm with shitty lloyds the web site . its like where do i go? the site is crap and so is bank opening times

Cooperative bank is ok for general account management. However, I tried to close a couple of accounts I don't use, and couldn't find mention of how to do this on the website (but then again, that's not something they're going to encourage, is it?).

It has the advantage of being ethical - my money isn't buying guns for third world wars, or being invested in industries that opress their workers, etc.

Yes I do & love it. But my bank's in the U.S.

Be really careful though of the ones that make special offers. Often too much is charged for other things. There was one offering $50. to move or open up a new account. But cs was crappy. It was difficult to impossible to contest bogus charges & fees. Debit cards had charges.

I had considered going there until a friend did & lost everything, literally. She wrote a post dated check, that the co. deposited before due, the bank cashed it, then charged her for insufficient funds & collected fees for both them & the co. Since she had direct deposit they took her next paycheck & most of another to pay it all off. It went down on her credit report & raised interest on her mortgage. It was a mess that she's still fighting 6 months later.

With mine I can view everything online or by an 800 number. There's a 24 hr. number to call for fraud or a bill dispute & they actually work with me to avoid fees, a free to use debit card, plus a bunch of other stuff & it's all free.

I also use paypal online. You can also view all your transactions & even the details online. I like it because I can use a debit card to get money in my account immediately (though a small charge) or have the money transferred to my bank or mailed, pay most businesses w/o giving out my card number online & now they let you have a virtual credit card for those businesses that don't accept paypal. They also can debit or charge your bank account rather than just your credit card. Most services are free or a small charge. I've been using them since the first week they started and they keep getting better.

But the combo of both give me more options and security when online.

I have been with First Direct for nearly 10 years - initially as a telephone bank and then on-line. As a telephone bank it is second to none - UK only call centres, human beings answer your call within 5 rings and the call does not end until you have achieved what you want. On-line the website is easy to follow and all transactions are straight forward, and if you do encounter any problems you can call then up and it will be sorted with the minimum of fuss.

I highly recommend First Direct to anyone. (And, no, I don't work for them!!)

I use Abbey for one of my savings account and find their online banking terrible to use.
I use Barclays for my business and they are just starting to catch up with their online banking compared to the rest so I class them as OK, and I use Hsbc for my everyday use and I find their online banking fantastic, easy to use, never had any problems using them.
Hope this helps

Northern Bank is the one i would Recommend. I have worked for First Trust and Bank of Ireland and i find Northern e-banking great and straightforward. Transfers to other banks are dead easy no need for complicated IBan nos. You can securely email Northern Bank with a query instead of using the phone and they respond quickly. Also i have never had to wait long on the phone either. Very Inpressed so far!!
