Try a credit union. If your car is mostly paid off, they might let you refinance it and get $4500 out.

You probably shouldn't be focusing on auto repair while you're falling into debt. Unless it's like "My car won't run unless I do this" auto repair. If it's just like "My taillight has a crack in it, but still works fine and is still legal" auto repair....yeah....not the time to be worrying about it.

do you have a 401k? Take a loan from there and you will pay the interest back to yourself. It's really a great system if you're still pretty young. You can usually only borrow 50% of your 401k account.

I don't know if this would work for you, and it can be very humiliating, but I had to apply to the "Bank of Dad" when I got into a serious pickle money wise. I'm still trying to deal with the shame of it all two years later but my problem was dire at the time and now I'm getting things turned around. Also, the Bank of Dad will be repaid in full.
