Does anyone else believe that the credit score system is just one BIG scam?
You have a bunch of people working in a high priced bank that tell you that you are not worthy to spend your own money how you want to. Does this seem fair?

....and I have also noticed that http://www.freecreditreport.com/ is not exactly "FREE"

I know of someone who has a nice house and two cars completely paid for by saving the money upfront for 12 years. The same person couldn't get a cell phone from Sprint because she's never had a credit card. Because she's never had a credit card, the credit company reported her as being "suspicious" and "possibly fraudulent". It seems that if they can't find a credit history for you then they assume you're lying about your personal info to ditch your creditors.

i think people with bad or no credit might think that, but than again if i owned a bank i wouldn't want to lend someone money who had a history of not paying it back.

LOL! i bet you have bad credit, don't you?

The credit scoring system is a way of determining two things:

1. Your likelihood of paying the full balance on your loan (on time) - 680 and above generally pay on time and in full.

2. Determining how much they can take advantage of those who do not understand credit.... 625 or below...

You are entitled to 1 credit report per credit reporting agency per year (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) The link below is a free one, try it instead of the one you used - You will not get a credit score, just your credit history which will include your late payments or collections - the things you will need to work on... Good Luck

It seems like it isn't fair, but its the only way to separate the ones with sensible intentions from the bad. I think if there was a better, more acurate way it would be in place. Some people make mistakes and unfortunately have to suffer along with those who are simply irresponsible.

The credit score system is a way of letting you know where you stand financially, i.e. if you're spending more than you make or vice-versa. Remember, unless you own the money otherwise they can't be considered as your own money yet so these bankers are not stopping you from spending your money.

Mike C
Yes, it's completely fair. It lets people know if you are a deadbeat or not. People who pay bills - have good credit. If you don't, why would banks want to lend you money? Their job is to make it - not give it away to someone who might not pay it back.

The unfair part is that it takes forever and a day to fix your credit score once you screw it up. I think that 7 years is an eternity for someone who has made some bad choices and now is trying to change that.

The credit score system works. I wish banks would just give you money without interest charges, but they never will. Having a low credit score doesnt mean you can't get a loan, it just means you'll pay higher interest rates. I think that's fair. It's your punishment for your mistakes. If you want the best rewards, you have to play fair.

You can spend your own money however you wish.
If you think credit scores are unfair, just save up and pay cash for everything.
If you save $400 a month for 5 years or so, you can go into a dealership and pay cash for a new car.....NO CREDIT NEEDED!!!

Only those that don't understand the system. Credit rating has nothing to do with how you spend your own money...

Actually, that is a very interesting question. I had not thought of that most of my life because most of the people I know simply go through life without questioning things. You bring up a very interesting point. Not all countries use a credit system like we have in the US. I am not certain if it is more strict here than anywhere else. But in my graduate studies I worked on a case that pointed out that Japan tried to implement a system of credit and it had a very negative effect on the economy because of the nature of the people there and their reaction to their credibility being public. I was thinking the other day about Henry Ford's contribution to the auto world. Many people think that he invented the automobile, when the truth is that he invented the assembly line which made automobiles cheaper and most people could afford them. I am curious to know how our countries economy would function if all of the sudden there were no credit scores to check. How long would the super rich stay rich, and could people in poverty with poor credit actually benefit from it. I could go on and on about this subject because it has so many implications when you think about it.

Who told you life was fair?

The best way to get good credit is to not need it. Stop borrowing money, and pay off your debts.
