Taking Sandwiches (Home Made) and a flask of coffee to work at a daily cost of £0.50 compared to spending £3.50 on lunch & coffees at work... Saves me £3.00/Day... £15/Week... or £750/Year!!!

Visit the Supermarket at Marking Down time for the quick sell through produce... Asda do this at 9.00pm... Go to the staff member with the discount labeler and be nice and they will knock loads off the dated stock...

I get the meat and curries and anything else that will freeze. Last week I bought £65 worth of food for £4.80!!!

Do not live above your means! when you buy, buy cash! if you cannot pay cash for something, you most likely cannot afford it!

Yes. Slow down your cash flow. Slow down how fast you spend what you have. This is one of the best ways of increasing your money you will ever find. It is because you are not using all your are obtaining. Think twice before you buy anything. Most of the stuff we buy with our money we buy because we have either been told we need it and we bought into that as well, or we have seen how happy someone else is with it and we feel we ought to have one, too.

What I do to help me save is (I have interent banking) as soon as my pay goes in the bank I have automatic transfers to other accounts- my rent goes out, money goes into an account with a seperate card for all my bills (I have sat down and worked out the amount I need to put away per week to cover them all) and then a set amount gets transfered into a savings account I can't touch (because I don't have a card for it and I earn interest). I live off only the small amount that is left in my main account but I know all my bills are covered. I find it helpful because I know I can spend that money without guilt and I don't accidently spend money I should have saved or money I need for bills.

I did this for a year and managed to save 15,000 dollars for a once in a lifetime trip for my 21st birthday.

- By the way I find it good not to carry around lots of cash because its easy just spend a few coins here and there and before you realise you have spent $30 or something and have no idea where it went.

Don't try to live a champagne lifestyle on a beer-man's wage.

Also - avoid accountancy. It can affect your sanity.

Do online banking and preset your bills and savings to come out on payday. That way you don't see it leaving. The only way I found I was able to save anything and keep my bills paid on time was the second I got them to make a future transaction for them to come out. I know approximately what I get and I know the day I get it. Buy in bulk when possible and bring a list. Stick to that list. Don't clip coupons except if it happens to be for a store you go to anyways for something you need anyways. In my area there are a few stores doing 15% off groceries on the first Tuesday of the month. It's a good day to get your groceries.
Turn the thermostat down at night, unplug what you can instead of just turning it off. Buy yourself a reusable coffee filter and go generic. Pack a lunch for work or school instead of eating out. Invest in a crock pot. There's a few out there good for one or two people also. It will save on expensive last minute quick cooking meals.
Carpool when possible, or take the bus.

Hi
Have a look at a superb site (below), the forum is really, really, helpful, whether you're cooking or cleaning, or want an olde worlde way of cleaning (white vinegar and bicarb of soda, works a treat).
They feature all the best deals and advice on all finances. This and the Consumer Credit Counseling Service (not sure of my spelling there) have given me my life back and helped me get back on my feet and I can't recommend it highly enough.
This is just a random page from their site: seems obvious, yes, but the figures are amazing:

Yes, why not?!
For presents why not make gifts, like delicious chocolate brownies or homemade biscuits... then just wrap them nicely. And people appriciate handmade gifts and cards, shows you're willing to put the time into them.
If you go shopping for fun (as a lot of people do) with your friends try and suggest you do something else where you won't be encouraged to spend. For example, museums and art galleries often have free entries.
Instead of going to coffee shops or restaurants, have people over for coffee, or get your friends to each bring a dish.
When you do go out to eat don't split the bill exactly equally, because you won't be rewarded for choosing tap water and you might be compensating for your friends' more expensive dishes.
Never buy books, join a few local libraries (all your nearest boroughs - I belong to 3 boroughs and my uni library!) Check out their CD collection, they can be quite good. I know its a bit cheeky, but for about £1 each for a loan of 3 weeks you can copy the CDs... So you don't have to buy them, you can just burn them on your computer. And ask your friends if you can borrow things, or more fairly swap for a while. You'll find you soon have double the wardrobe/cd collection etc.
Go running, walking or cycling instead of joining/belonging to a gym. Or just go out for a walk with friends again instead of a more expensive activity.
Instead of going to the pub, have your friends over to drink at home.

dont buy stuff that you think you will just gonna be needing it for a short time of period. spend youR money wisely.,its easy to spend but its hard to save .. "just think for a good vacation in a future, a luxury car in the future if you save at least 10% of your every salary.""money comes and go"that's what they always say and enjoy it..make priority in your life what you wanted to be in a future.,what you wanted to have in a future and it can happen its all depends on you..it is depend on your hands.DONT USE CREDIT CARD FOR SHOPPING.,USED IT FOR EMERGENCY ONLY! I HOPE THIS HELPS...

Sit down and write a budget:
List all income
deduct all fixed bills (rent, utilities, cable, phone, etc.)
consider it a fixed bill if it shows up once a month
deduct a set amount to go towards savings
Once you agree on an amount have it transferred from your checking account into a highyield savings account automatically.
deduct set "monthly" allowance for long term bills that show up every 6 months to a year.

The rest is your discretionary income.

Divide by 4 = equals the weekly amount of money you have to spend on food, gas and whatever else you need money for.

Things you should take a look at:

Car insurance.... see whether you can't find a cheaper insurance carrier.

Phone bill - same here... there are a lot of cheaper options

cable - reduce to basic channels unless you really use all those premium channels..

Food budget - do all shopping once a week then avoid going because you forgot something... chances are you will spend more again...

Eating Out... cut it down to a couple of times a month. Make it a treat not an everyday thing.

For real penny pinching... cut out coupons and use them on things you need. Buy generic brands, and stick with KoolAid instead of soft drinks at home. Get as much as possible at places like Dollar Stores and low price grocery stores.

And if you have money left out of your weekly "discretionary dollars" put them in a savings account.
Your automatic savings.... every time you reach the amount necessary to buy a 6 month CD do so... it will stop you from getting tempted to spend the money and will gain a lot more in interest.

Try bringing your lunch to work with you, instead of buying one somewhere.

Sometimes movies will have special free previews that you can go to if you pick up free tickets at a certain store on a certain day. Keep an eye out for these offers in your local newspaper, and instead of paying for a movie, see the free previews!

For entertainment, instead of doing something expensive like going to a bar, find out about cultural institutions that have discount or free days. All museums have free days, and you can become a more educated person, have a good time, hang out with your friends, and spend no money!

Instead of relying on yourself to put money away from your paycheck every week, go to your HR dept and see if you can split your direct deposit. I have it set up so that every week, $200 goes to savings, so I don't even have to think about it! It's a great way to save without having to plan every week how much you'll put in.

Don't get sucked into buying things you don't really need because they're on sale. If something's on sale, you only save money if you were going to buy it anyway. For instance, 2-for-1 conditioner or shampoo is great, because you know you'll use it eventually, and would have to buy it anyway. But a cocktail dress at 50% off is not a bargain if you didn't need it in the first place!

I hope these help, there are a thousand and one ways to save, and every penny counts!

Yes ive had to adopt some pretty quick! My tip is not to shop for the week as I used to cus by the time I got round to us using the vegetables they had started to go off so I just shop for 2 days at a time now. Also shop at Aldi and Lidl they are soooo much cheaper and the fruit and veg is particularly cheap and very good quallity. I can save about £15 per week shopping there. Good luck.
