I received a hefty inheritance and my bank said they didn't have to notify the government... but reiterated how I have to pay taxes on interest, etc.
But it may depend on where they know the money is coming from? I am aware that Canada has Anti-Money Laundering laws... so, there would soem government notification on large sums of cash deposits.
Another scenario would be my mother who makes over 10k a month and has her cheque direct deposited... again, she does not have to fill out forms for the government and neither does the bank.
I am too lazy to read the page I am posting in my sources but you should. It deals with the Anti-Money Laundering laws and such in Canada. |

Actually its 9,999. 10,000 and above they are required by law to report it. Wheres the freedom in that???? |

10,000 but if you have more than that you can always give it to me! : ) Also, if you do deposits at different times they will not mess with you only if you do large amounts at one time. |

Generally, $10,000 and over are reported.
although, do keep in mind that other checks and balances are put into place.. figure the small talk between you and the bank associate... why we ask your occupation, etc. If, out of the norm, you make multiple cash deposits even tho they may be under $10k, your acct can be submitted for review. ;p |
