Melissa S | Does anyone think that $28,000 a year for a person who graduated college in 2004 is good???? |
I can't even buy food and gas. What should I do? |

Definitely below average. Put your name/resume on the market and start looking. Doesn't hurt anything to look around, you can always say no. |

Depends on where you live and the cost of living. However, if you are already saying you cannot buy food and gas, the answer is no. A college graduate has the ability to make over 30,000 anywhere. Keep looking, that job is not the answer. |

Look, in California, you could starve on that. Retail clerks make that. You need to get on monster.com, or usajobs.gov. You should have a better job, however, be aware that the unemployment rate is at 5%, so maybe a bad job is better than no job.
Good luck. |

I'm still going to school for my BA degree and I make just over $65,000 a year. It's not how much you make, what you spend - it is weather or not you are happy with your current situation. I'm guessing your not thrilled. I would look for something that will make your life happy.
I think $28,000 is below poverty, so no it is not to good. |

Thats horrible, I dint go to college and I make around 50k and I'm still suffering. You should aim for 70k with a college degree, look for something outside of your area maybe!? But please find something better than 24k thats just insane with a BA. |

Totally depends on your major ,job industry, and job location.
I live in DC, graduated in 2005 and am making quite a bit more than that. My rent is also 'low' for the area at $800 where others often pay up to $1,300 for a 1 bedroom apartment.
If you were a poly sci major working for a non-profit, and living in a more urban area, $28,00 is pretty good. If you were a business major working in a major city, $28,000 isn't bad, but it is less than average.
What was your major, what type of job are you in, where do you work? |

It depends on where you're living at and the cost of living.
You just need to keep looking for a better paying job... |

It depends on what you graduated in. You have two options, marry someone (this will combine your expenses and reduce your individual burdens), but of course this is no reason to get married, so unless you already plan on marrying someone, maybe you should look at option 2: finding a new job. You can either look for a promotion within the same company or you can look elsewhere. You may not find an immediate job that pays more, but you can likely find a job that will allow you to advance within the organization and thus make more. Start looking for ways to network and for job opportunities. I wouldn't quit until I had another job offer. |

Not good. If you further your degree with a masters would the salary improve by much? If you move would the salary be better? Can you ask for a raise? Maybe look into another career. Physical Therapy Assistant is a 2 year degree and my Mom makes ~30 dollars an hour, double on holidays. Also Nursing is good. Or just get a part-time job in addition to your full time one, like weekend waiter/waitressing. |

It's definitely average but it all depends what position you have in your job and how much you work. but for you to have an okay position and you do work then 28,000 is good.
Try cutting down on the goods in life so don't get on brand things but try off brand instead they taste just the same. Start clipping coupons it definitely works you can save so much by just looking at your local newspaper and clipping coupons for the items you need. |

Go to Barnes & Noble, and find a book "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. Don't buy it, just sit down in the store and read it.
It talks about how to budget your money so that you can buy food & gas, and how to knock out whatever debts you've accumulated. |

It depends on where you live, what degree you have, and what kind of job you have. Where I live, that's a decent amount of money for having graduated recently. But if you live somewhere with a high cost of living, it may not be. |
