Does it cost anything to open a bank account?

bankchick
Usually it takes $100 to open an account.

You cant just open an account with nothing!!

Probably have to have an initial deposit .. And if you are buying checks, some places make you pay for those.

it depends on the bank you choose to do your banking with and also the type of account u want to open. Checking? Savings? IRA? Some accounts do require a deposit, it just depends!

M dot Law
Many many banks require a minimun deposit to start an account and some banks require that you keep a minimumun balance in order to avoid being charged a fee... so it doesnt technically "cost" to open an account but it does require money... I work for a large bank and certain account require a 25 dollar minimun deposit..but you can turn right around and withdrawl that money from the account...

Depends. Different banks have different fees to open and maintain an account. Also, within the same bank there wil be bank accounts with fees and some without. It usually depends on the type of account, the amount you keep in the account , and the frills associated with the account.
For a typical checking account you might see a fee of about $5/month. Some banks charge nothing so shop around.

Most banks won't charge any fees to open an account. But you might have to have a minimum amount of money to deposit. It's still your money, you just have to deposit it into the account.

Yes u need some money to open a bank account cause they
have to deposit some money in your account then they will
order some check books and some over draft protection etc
and it all cost money.

It really depends which bank you open the account with.
But most banks require a fee to open an account.

Treebeard
If you go to a bank that charges you, leave and choose another! Most banks are currently competing with one another and offering free checking. I believe WaMu and Wachovia are two such banks.

some banks charge, some don't. Call the banks you want an account with and ask them about the types of account they have and if they charge to open an account.

Amkii
Depends on what bank you're using. Typically it's free to open an account, but some banks require a minimum amount to be put into a checking or savings account before you can start actively using it.

some banks make you leave a minimum balance in the account (anywhere from $10 to $750) but i've never heard of them charging to actually open an account.

No but you have to have the minimum balance required for the type of account you are trying to open, but it doesn't cost you anything to do it but a few minutes of time.

No. But there could be charges on the transactions like withdrawals from bank, deposits, etc. Please read the terms very carefully before committing to opening account with any bank.

You have to make an initial deposit, usually around $10 - $25 dollars.

mtf

It depends on the bank and the type of account you want to open. Most savings don't require an amount to open an account, but most checking accounts require a minimum amount. It really just depends on the bank and you can check it they have any promotions going on.

Not at all, but you should have some money to put in the account when you open it; at least $25. But it doesn't cost a cent to initially open an account.

EVANS HERE YAY!!! WHAT A BIG GUY

Depends on the type of account...

You can open an accoutn with no problem, but most bank accounts have a monthly fee associated with them.

Also, you will be charged for each time you use your debit card to withdraw funds or make a purchase

Herve

maybe like an initial deposit of like $20

Anonymous-x

think it depends on what type of account.
