"aplayerd"? What does that mean?

Interesting use of phonetics (and understandable too).

I've heard of banks closing customers' accounts on the grounds that "the relationship between bank and customer has clearly broken down".

Actually they, as a business, have the right not to have you as a customer just like you have the right not to have them as your bank.

Its a difficult one. Technically they shouldn't, they are not supposed to penalise you for having a legitimate complaint, and the Financial Ombudsman was cracking down on this.

However, its not technically illegal, theres nothing saying they definately can't do it.

If you have only claimed charges back once, then you should be able to take your claim to the financial ombudsman, and you may get a small amount of compensation from the bank.

However, if you have claimed charges more than once from the same bank then there is little you can do.

The website for the financial ombudsman is shown below, you can download a complaint form from there. I can't guarentee that they will find in your favour, but you will lose nothing by trying.

Also have a look at my bank charges website below which has more info on topics such as this.

The site is free to use!

yes they do. It is also was wise to open another bank account prior to claiming back your charges

justme
Yes I believe they reserve the right to close an account at any time. Basically, you are a bad investment for them if you keep bothering them about bank charges.

gringomasloco
I can't really make any sense out of your question, but they can close your account for any reason they like, or for no reason.

Shagger
Your bank has the right to close your account at any time. The reason is irrelevant.

This is detailed in the terms and conditions you signed when you opened the account.

The only stipulation is that they must give you advance warning of doing this, to allow you to make arrangements for your payments etc.

They can do whatever they like.

What I don't understand is why people suddenly feel they are entitled to claim a refund of bank charges. You would have been informed of the charge rates when opening the account. If you had managed your account better you wouldn't have incurred the charges in the first place.
