Financial problem about to have a baby.?
I recently found out my girlfriend is pregnant. By me of course. I have large bills. Not many bills but expensive loan payments. It's hard to save money. It's hard to even pay rent and utilities. I make between 1700 and 1800 a month. My girlfried just recently got laid off. Has anybody been through this before? If so, can you give advice?

You might want to think about giving the child up for adoption. A wonderful, unselfish thing to do. Then later, when you're more stable, you can decide about marriage and a family. PLEASE, do not abort the child.

You could consider applying for WIC (Women Infants Children), which will give you vouchers for baby formula or food, if she decides to breast feed. You should qualify, given your income, bills, and the fact that she is currently unemployed. Certain states also give vouchers for child care. Good luck to you.

you better go get another job... and have her get one as long as she can work, wherever she can get hired.. U can't make it on one income anymore, no one can, unless you are a dr, or someone that high up in the earnings ... I am sure she can get state aid, most states have it so that the baby is well nourished, and mom is too...
In MA we have WIC, for Women, Infants, and Children... you'd more than likely qualify for something like this in your state...

Check with government assistant, WIC and the health department. Go to yard sales, thrift stores and family and friends that have had kids.
My wife and I will have twins in the spring and I am a teacher and she only has an on and off job. Take it one day at a time, and take care of the little one.

Been there your g/f should sign up for wic. You get free cereal, milk, pb, cheese and a lot of other stuff then once the baby is born you receive 12 cans of formula every month for a year free. We did this with our first child. Look in the phone book there are a lot of organizations and churches that will help ppl get on their feet.

been ther and done that. so has most everyone else. join the club.
learn to shop at the resale stores, thrift stores, and the all famous dollar store.
clip coupons, watch the sale adds.
its a pain, but it works.
last but not least.....stay away from credit cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well first of congradulations!
I am not sure what state you live in.. but if you live in a state where Kaiser Hospital is... they take pre exsisting and visits will be low.. or at least find a good insurance service to assist.

Tell your girlfriend to work through a temp agency... as most companies do not want to hire a pregnant woman.. and she can work as long as she is able to. Your girlfriend can work.. being pregnant is nothing new and millions of women work.. she is healthy and needs to stay busy and still contribute. She needs to go see an agency this Tuesday and not a minute longer!

I worked until the day I went into labor both times..

Make sure you currently live in as low rent as you can .. just for a year and a half..

And call a credit council to set up payment plans that fit your budget..

Also.. make sure you give to a communitee charity faithfully.. it does not have to be much.. but it needs to be consistant..
As it is true that you will be blessed if you bless someone else.

And if you have things of value that you really do not need ... then sell if worth it and put some money in your account.

Shop at a grocery store that is very affordable

Dont worry about a second job just yet.. do that when your girlfriend has the baby.. and do it just for a while.. it is not easy and it can burn you out!

.

You will be fine.. and just live humble.. and let your baby be your entertainment for a while..

hey man i am going through something similar now, i am in the militay and my fiance is pregnant, 7 months. We bring in between the both of us, we clear right at 4000 a month and pay out about 1800 every two weeks. All our bills are paid and a dcent house is over our head. All i can say is be a man, keep your head high and dont just give up to all the pressure. BTW i am only 23 she is 21 and i am stressing beause when she has to go on maternity leave i dont know how we are going to pay the bills without her income.

well there are plenty of people who have been through this before. you can have 100 different pieces of advice. You are typical of gold collar generation. large debts, fast cars, flat screen tvs. what i will tell you is that you are in for the most wonderful time of your life. this baby will make you a better man. you will find new priorities. yes it will be tight, so find soemthing you love to make money at and it will follow. you are going to be responsible for the most precious gift you will ever be given. be patient, loving, kind and responsible. when you hold your child and she yawns, and takes your fingers you will know what you need to do. i wish you and your new family well. love is all that really matters. love her, and your new baby.

Storage is cheaper than rent, then move into a hostel. That much money is pretty good. What ever your paying plus add your rent money to your bills, stop smoking partying and get a weekend job your bills Will disappear real fast then when you leave the hostel system you should be debt free, or your can waite till you go totally broke and still have to move into the hostel.

Second job seems to be essential for you. Your gf probably need to look for a home based job or something simple type of job like cash register, etc. In my experience, significant amount of money can be saved if you cook at home instead of going out to eat, if you do so. Adoption might be an idea, if you both agree on that part for now as other people have suggested here. Good luck!

Jim M
I agree with proud single mom. Cut expenses as soon as you can. Look for a second job

Bill P
You should have thought about that before you got her pregnant.

Get a second job...seriously. You have no idea how expensive a baby is until he/she is born. Diapers, formula, clothes...the list is never ending. I read somewhere recently that in the first year of a baby's life the parents spend 13-15,000 on things they need. That is only the beginning.

I'm not being an alarmist...just a realist. Get a second job and sock away any extra money you can now, before the baby is born.

Frank Castle
I suggest you to abort the mission if you know what I mean.

Aznq_t24
she can try to find a job or work from home thing. You can ask money from the governement or your relatives or get a loan. Good luck, and hope all goes well. I know how hard it is to have a family when you're unprepared.

...also, try getting a credit card.
