Financially broke and need some advice?
Basically, my husband works, but doesn't make enough right now. I have a child who needs the necessities (diapers, food, etc) and I can't get a job, because daycare costs more than what I'd make (and the gas expenses). Any advice? Any suggestions on ways to save money?

Anything will help. Thank you.

Hi: Some really, really good ideas here. I'll just chip in with, if your husband works basically, sounds like sales or unsteady work. May be he needs more work. Could register with a temp. That got me work when I needed it. If temps don't come through, you register with another. May be take on part-time as an additional source of income.
Save all your receipts and keep a diary of your expenses. Don't know your husband's occupation, but he may have employee business expenses that are only partially reimbursed or not reimbursed.
Start a business. If you have a loss the first 3 years or 3 or first 5 years, does not raise eyebrows with the IRS. And, it wipes out AMT which is a possibility if your husband works 2 jobs.

Try switching to cloth diapers. And make your own baby food. There are great recipes online. I'll go find some and post them here for you.

Why not get a night job. If your husband is home at night and can watch the baby so you dont have to pay for daycare then you CAN work.

Sammi (above) has a couple of good ideas, but also until you can...check with your local Dept. of Social Services. See if they can give you some help with food..i.e. WIC and/or food stamps..at least for now until you can get on your feet financially. That's what those programs are there for..not for freeloaders, but for families in need..and it sounds like you could use some of their help right now. Good luck to you and your family.

Anything extra that you are subscribing to, magazines...ect cancel it. Try to sepnd more money on things you need, less on what you want. Try not to drive if you don't have to, if your destination is in walking distance, i would walk there. That would dramatically cut down on the gas expense.

Sell Avon!
Hold Tupperware parties!
Sell Mary Kay!
Babysit other kids at your home alongside your own!
Have a yard sale!
Sell some old furniture!

what about a job where you can take your baby with you?

paper route? flyer delivery?
that would be some extra cash and something that you could easily take the baby with you

also there are always the tupperware/makeup selling from your home kinds of things, but sometimes friends feel burdened to buy from you

i would do the paper route thing
it will get you and the kidlet some fresh air and some moola!

good luck

Try to apply for social security benefits if your income is below a certain level. You can also try to find a work which allows telecommuting from home.

I know how hard it is, especially when you have a child.
The best advice is DO NOT get yourself into debt by borrowing or adding to credit cards to get by. I know that seems obvious, but that's the mistake I made.
I understand about child care costs, it's not always worth your while going to work!
If you have access to a computer I would suggest joining several paid surveys sites that pay for your opinions on basically anything and everything! it's not a fortune, but those little cash injections are always welcome when you're on a budget, and you don't have to leave the house.
Good luck, I know how you feel :)

Churches: some can help with food and diapers go to more than 1.
Township: ask if they offer help. some do with food pantry or some bills.
Public Aid/Assistance: see if your state offers financial aid for those in need.
W.I.C.: If your child is young enough and you qualify they offer help for food, and formula.
Aldi: If you have an Aldi store by you there food is cheaper and a little more reasonable to feed your family.
Bills: Try to temp. cut out the things that aren't necessary. like cable, extra phones, Internet. Use less electric, hang clothes to dry- no dryer.
Food: Shop to make meals. Don't buy frozen dinners they cost way more. Pasta-cheap and you get plenty of it.
CEDA: they help with gas and electric bills depending on your location and time of year.
Ask your Alderman's office about different help that is available or even you city hall.
If you have family that can babysit so you don't have to do child care. Work a different shift than your husband just for the time being.
I hope this information helps! Things will get better. Best wishes to you and your family! Hang in there.

Sell household items on eBay, or try garage sales or thrift shops to source products.

Try modeling. This can pay well.

Use your expertise or training and help others in your trained field. Network with friends and relatives relaying the message that you are available for assisting, training or teaching your field to others.

If you are at home with your child, watch a few more children for a fee that is less than other daycares charge.

Do your best to stay current on your bills. If you fall behind on payments, pay in this order above all else - house, utilities, food, transportation and clothing (just the essentials, everything else can wait).

Make sure your husband's making all he can make at his current job. If it's still really tight, he might consider a part-time job, like delivering pizzas a few nights a week for about a thousand extra dollars a month or something like that. Or you can get a part-time job for when he gets off work and he can watch the kids when he gets home. Income's usually the biggest thing to get working for you.

Of course, stash into your savings any way you can. Yard sales, eBay, and cut unnecessary things from your monthly budget.

These are things that have always worked for me. Good luck. :)

hello
garage sale, maybe you can watch another child during the day and get paid for it, or maybe he should get a better or second job

Do you have access to the internet? If so get your hands on $219.95 and visit this site. It won't get you rich but you can earn $150.00 every. You will have to put in a few hours a day. Go to http://littleguynetworksignup.com

I was in the same situation that you are. I decided to go with a direct sales company called Jewels by ParkLane. It only cost my $39 to get my starter kit. I have only been working with it for a week and have made enough to cover my cell bill this month. The jewelry sells itself and it gives you a chance to get out and mingle with people!!

Go to tag sales, buy stuff cheap and sell it on ebay. You can do that from home to make extra money.
Don't eat expensive food. Eat bargain food for now...go to the bargain market, not the expensive supermarket.
And, don't waste your money on disposable diapers.
Do what they did in the old days....make your own! Learn to launder them!
When I was a kid, my mother washed her own diapers. She didn't spend $50 a week on disposables! People have to learn the old time ways to get by today.
There are sprays you can use that will completely deordorize a diaper pail or diaper room.
One of the cheapest, and best, is to use acrylic high gloss colorful spray paint. When ever you clean your diaper pail, give it a shot of spray paint....like graffiti. The chemicals in the spraypaint are a powerful odor killer.
I am not kidding you. I once helped someone build a restaurant, and we used spraypaint to kill the odor of a sewer pipe we had to open!

You can make extra money off of the computer. This site isn't a scam and I think it's worth your time. It's just completing offers, not all that get rich quick BS.
http://www.treasuretrooper.com/394207

The best way to get more money are the offers that include free trials. Sign up and then cancel; it costs nothing and you usually get like $10 per one. Clear $20 by the 15th-20th of every month and it transfers automatically to your PayPal. You can also have a check sent to you if you want. Good luck!
