dont get savings bonds... thats a terrible investment.. bonds do not even beat inflation rates.... this sounds really boring and not exciting but throw that money into a ROTH IRA with mutual funds.. you wont be able to touch it until you are 59 but hundreds of dollars at 16 would turn into thousands of dollars. keep busting your butt now as much as you can.. you will be able to enjoy everything later once you have money to spend... broke people say enjoy your childhood.. rich people will tell you thats how they started.. pay cash for everything and never get into debt.. stay away from credit cards... they will bring you down . |

$11.50/hr is fairly good for a first job. Your weekly total depends on your hours. $500 at $11.50/hr comes to more than 40 hours. That is DEFINED as full time. |

I'm 20 yrs old, and I get paid $11.50/hr. I only clear $337 if i work 40 hrs, I get almost 25% of my pay taken out in tax. I wish my work had paid me that much at 16. Enjoy! |

For 16 years old $500 is great. I assume you're still in high school so remember to enjoy your summer as well. You'll have your whole life to earn money and pay bills. Good to see you're responsible too though.
Don't blow it either. Now is the time in life where you invest a few bucks and with 30-40 years on interest you'll be in good shape when you're older. |

yes, i personally think $500 a week for a teenybopper is pretty good cash. but the more important question is, do you have enough time to play as the kid that you are (or should be) Once you start working, you never stop until you die, so enjoy your childhood while you can. Happiness doesn't necessarily cost anything. |
