i would give them a shop voucher, for the likes of Tesco etc., so that they have money to buy food! Sorry to hear your friend is having money trouble, there is nothing worse especially at this time of year. |

i'd give them something they needed rather than something useless. it will help them to pay off their debts if they dont have to buy whatever it is they needed that you bought them.
i dont think i would give them cash, although it is what they need, they might be offended. |

No way, this is not classed as a christmas present.
What i would do is offer to lend them some money . I'm sure your friends have pride. so dont give them money wrapped up and insult them. |

I would give them some vouchers so they know they have something for the new year, by the way I wish you was my friend, I am skint at the mo |

It would really depend on how much you are willing to spend on them.
I would get them vouchers that could be used in food shops like say M&S. That way they could use it for food and then use whatever money they have to pay some bills.
You're a very thoughtful person - wish there was more like you around!!! |

A present or vouchers is probaly best. If they are in that much financial trouble, than unless you can give enough to really help, its not going to make much of a difference to them. A present might help them forget there worries for a little while. |

I wouldn't give them cash... although you mean well it can offend some people and it's not very special for christmas is it? It's just like woo for xmas I paid off my BT bill.
Xmas is about treating someone you care about.
Just get them a nice little gift... whether it's a nice present or a meal out or a spa day, what ever you think they would like.
If they aren't doing too well financial, giving them an xmas card and in it tell them what you are going to take them to do - it would be nice to take them out for a meal or do something special with them - let them choose the day you just choose the event. If they aren't well for cash this would be a nice little treat for them and maybe give them a cheap little prezzie in relation to what you are about to do? If your taking them rally driving get them a car magazine or something, or if it's a spa session maybe a face mask and some candles, not expensive but just so they have something to open.... it's up to you though |

Depends how much you want to help them. A xmas hamper might be a good idea, but you'll have to give it to them early. |

How about getting them a gift card to their local grocery store. That way you'll know they have food (most of those gift cards cannot be used to cigs and alcohol) without having offended them by buying them groceries or things like wine that they really don't need at the moment.
Or you could get them a prepaid Visa card so that they can spend the money on anything they wanted. |

No I wouldn't give a friend who was hard up for christmas.
If they were struggling at the moment, I would offer to help if I thought that they REALLY needed it. Although it depends on person as I wouldn't want to humiliate them.
For Christmas, I would invite them to my place for Christmas dinner, make sure they have a good time. If they are hard up, just being there for them will make life better.
A friend in need is a friend indeed!
Money costs, but your time is priceless! |

I would give cash honestly, my dad asked what I wanted for Christmas this year, I told him just money, my fiance and I are planning our wedding (getting married in april) and we could use all the help we get....
I mean ..my dad isn't the type to loan money and if you tell him the money is for a bill payment or whatnot, he wont give you the money!
so i just tell him i'd like some money to go purchase what I want.
Good Luck. |

It depends - how rich are you and what are you limits?
Obviously if you are going to give a couple of hundred then cash would be great.
How about some vouchers for Tesco's or their local supermarket. Then if necessary they can buy food/ extras for christmas/clothes/household things etc.
Maybe you can also give them some advice on how to cope with their debt/money etc. |
