How sweet and honest of you to think about this person during these times. I would do the following:
1) Keep trying to get a hold of him.
2) Take the cash out of the wallet. Buy a money order (cashier's check since it's 1k) and place it in the wallet along with a note explaining you've been trying to get a hold of him. Send the wallet to the address listed on his driver's license via certified mail.
It will cost you. But, I'm sure this guy (and his family) would be very appreciative. |

Call him and ask if it is whatever his name is. If he says yes, then say that you found his wallet with his drivers license and money and everything. Arrange to meet him halfway to where he lives, or something like that. |

Call him about it. He might be over 4 hours away from you, but no-one's saying that *you* have to get over there. He could always catch a train or arrange a secure post. |

Mann listen, i know u mite be thinking to urself oh oh i love this there is so much i cud buy with 1000 bucks sweet! but it's all up to u rlly. If you wanna be a good person then i suggest u drive those 4 hrs and go to his house. He'll probably praise u ALOT! truss me, and i know a lot of ppl tell u this but u have to do the right thing and put urself in his shoes. If u lost that much money wudnt u feel like a dumbo? wudnt u feel like crying or some thing like that? That's probably exactly how he feels. And if ur juss a person u likes money then u can keep it. |

I find it odd that he doesn't want to "drive down" to get it. Ask him how he would like you to return the money. Otherwise, i'd also insure, it send it, and deduct the cost of mailing. |

take the money and return the wallet into his mailbox, or mail it to him money included, its one of those moral dilemmas you will face in your life, what ever you do with the money is your decision and just make sure he gets his wallet back |

Phone him- if you can get his number- and let him know that you've found it and see how he wants you to get it back to him.
You can either give it to the local police station and get them to forward it to him or send it special deliver to his address (using some of the money from the wallet and putting the change and receipt in the parcel too so he knows you weren't just getting a few beers or fibbing on the cost or anything).
Either way I wouldn't spend the money- no matter how tempting it is!! |

Hm... i would normally say head it over either to his house or the police. If you really really REALLY need the money, then according to my religious text, you have to keep some of it. |

If the guy is too lazy to come get his own damn money, he doesn't deserve it. HOWEVER, it obviously isn't right for you to keep it. Bring it to the police station and let them know you have been trying to contact him by phone. They will make sure he gets his wallet back. |

Contact guy if possible say you found his wallet [ perhaps via the police station ]. Then request a "finders fee" say $100 [ or whatever he's willing to pay] for safe return. However, if you do this you cannot take any money out as he will know whats in the wallet. In this scenario everyones a winner - sort off |

You may feel like keeping it, but I suggest not. If you were that person and you had 1000 dollars and then somebody took it and spent it that would feel bad. Plus that person needs their Driver's License to show at some stores.
So like other people are saying, call him, tell him you found it and you can arrange a time you can pick it up, and who's going to pick it up.
Don't send it through mail, someone might steal it and no one will have the money but the robber.
If you give it back to him he might thank you and give you some money in return.
If you can't find the right phone number, try calling later. Or you can search it with http://zabasearch.com. Or you could leave a message.
But it's probably hard to do this because no one feels like picking it up...maybe you can hand it over to trustworthy police and tell them to give it to the man. |
