Getting Calls From Debt Collector?
They are requesting £300.00 for ebay fees, but I have never used eBay for buying or selling, only browsing! I dont know what to do because they have my address. I dont know how they go it!
Whats the next step, cause I'm not sure where I stand!
Additional Details
The number is 08703330159, the are debt collectors. I use my computer with my family only, none have ever signed up for ebay or paypal. We only use Amazon....

Whatever you do don`t allow them in the house if they call, not even one foot and go to the CAB for some advice, they are very good....

Charlene
Call the Police if they come around. Ask ebay for proof that you owe the money.

Unless somebody has been using your computer without your knowledge then it sounds like a scam. Don't reply to the address or phone number they give you, look up Ebay's phone number for yourself and start from the beginning with them.

I think you should get yourself down to your local Citizens Advice Bureau for some free legal advice on how to proceed. Get as much info on this debt collection agency as you can, it could just be a try-on, not even a real debt collection agency.

Ring the number, tell them your taking it to the police, see what they say. Debt collectors are called as a last resort,if this is the first you've heard i'd be suspicious. Do not let them in,or sign anything.

It sounds like you've been 'cloned'. You have to write to them explaining that you know nothing about the fees. They will have to take you to court before they can take anything - and at that point you'll be able to defend yourself.

Keep writing to them and hopefully, they'll get the idea, but don't be shocked if you get a summons...

The debt, will by the sound of things handled by a debt collecting agency that will only have the information that they have been given.
Ask them to give you the evidence, I there is no evidence to back up what they are saying tell them to go to hell and then see the CAB.

Don't give them one bit of information, record the next call let them know you are taping them, contact the police, this just sounds like a scam to me. If it is not a scam and is legitimate don't let them bully you with pressure. i love turning the tables on those collectors that call and say well don't you have family or friends you can get money from? I always answer hey since you feel free to call bugging me give me a grand so i can pay your dam bill.

The number you gave belongs to INTERIM JUSTITIA who are a well known debt collection agency. It would appear you are not the only person to have problems with them - this is just one link that I found http://www.saynoto0870.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.cgi?num=1161973309/2

Whatever you do, do not admit to anything, offer them any payment or let the in if they call to the door. I would write to them explaining that you do not owe the money and request a full explanation from them. At the same time I would write to Ebay and ask them for full details as well whilst explainng that you have never had an account. Hopefully Ebay will listen and cancel the debt xx

JOHN R
I believe the calls are from Intrum Justitia. They will not give up. If you go to the Ebay forums you will find that it is really common. There are a long list of numbers they use at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=5804126
Take the advice you have had from others go to your nearest C.A.B.

Its easy ... do you use paypal to pay for your items ? if not then they have no idea what they are taking about and if they pull your bank details they will not be yours ...paypal cannot take from you what you do not owe ...could the £300 be from what you have brought from ebay and set your account up wrong so the money comes from your paypal rather than your bank account ? this way you will owe money ... check your paypal account and see how its set up
best of luck

I would be pretty cross and a bit scared too if I were in your position. I think perhaps a sensible idea would be to challenge them by asking them to put in writing exactly what your debt is allegedly for and to provide proof in writing to support their claim. If they refuse then I think my next step would be to complain to BT and explain the situation that you are receiving threatening and intimidating phone calls. Even if their number is withheld BT can trace the call and block them from calling you again. I think I would tell the caller that you intend to take this action if you receive any further calls.

It sounds like the worst kind of bullying scam to me and the police may like to know about it too!

Tell them you are busy, and will call them right back, get their name and telephone number. Write them down.

Call them back, to make sure the number is good, and tell them that you need their name and address so you can pay them.

Write them down.

Then hang up, and call the police, and give them the information on them. They are criminals.

John H
ask them for evidence of the debt.

tell them if they come around you'll call the police and get them arrested for trespass.

go to Citizens Advise Bureau!!
