Keep clear of shABBEY. They are a complete waste of time and money.
Nationwide is still a Building Society and you did say bank but I would recommend them. I have been a customer for nearly 20 years and never had a problem.
P.s. Don't tell everyone but I think they will change to a Bank status soon and if you have some money in their pot you will be rewarded with shares. Go on, be a carpet bagger. |

I have been shopping for banks for some time now because my current bank, Barclay's more concern about profit than about customer satisfaction. I found out that Halifax is not too bad if you do not go near their insurance amd mortgage
Fairly good loan and O/D interest rates. |

I'm with First Direct and I have to say that they've been really good (much to my amazement).
They have real human beings on the end of the phone 24 hrs a day and the internet banking works a treat too.
I banked with Barclays when I was a teenager and when they mislaid my account for a couple of weeks I decided it was time to move on.
The comment about them charging is just as a previous person says, just put a pound in a savings account and there's no charge. |

Try Lloyds TSB.....they dont hound you for the credit that you owe them, are most often quite professional, and aren't that quick to charge you. They are all quite shhite, I think one of the major things is whether or not they shamelessly bombard you with marketing and pay you decent interest, two areas where LTSB is quite good. |

Most banks are fine if you have money, it's really the way they deal with your debt etc. If you have a good income each month then Alliance and Leicester has an excellent current account offer.
I actually bank with HSBC, they haven't given me any problems in 8 years. When they made one slight mistake they even credited me £10 as a way of saying sorry. |

SMILE - The internet Bank.
Which is run by the Co-Operative Bank.
Great customer service, never falls down, very secure. It's the only bank I'd ever praise and I've been with them for years without a hitch.
They also invest ethically.

HSBC has been good for 8 years with only one "blip" on their record as far as I'm concerned. Stay away from, I think it's called "First Direct" internet bank. They are trying to penalise their customers for being poor.
Even if you have the £10.00 per month they want to charge for accounts below a certain amount, due us a favour and just don't bank with them.
The bottom line is, everyone will have a negative thing to say about every bank. HSBC has been quite good and fair. |

No, I am so sorry, but there aren't any!
Try the ABN-AMRO Bank, think there are offices there in the UK!
I had it with Barclays as well, over 25 years ago, they gave personal information to my girlfriends mother over the phone as we were in Monaco! I got some compensation after writing a few letters..a bank..a joke more like!
What have you experienced..e-mail me pls?

FIRST DIRECT is the best.
I've tried Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, and Nationwide.
For those of you with FirstDirect, they will not charge you IF you open a savings account with them along with your current account. There are no EXTRA forms to fill. It takes 2 seconds to open that account and THUS, you DONT have to pay the £10 fee per month. The fee is ONLY FOR CUSTOMERS NOT using their account (dormant accounts) which wastes a lot of time/paper/admin. (im an administrator i know what goes on behind the scenes).
HSBC is the worst!
I had an account with them for 2 years and they didn't even give me overdraft facility of a single pound!!! No credit card, nothing. (and i had run the account well). They told me that my money fluctuated too much (my mom sent me my wedding gift £5K into that account, then sent me £5K for my 1st baby).... So basically if you have money coming into your account, you are penalized!!!
Barclays.... let me just say I was told that "maam, sorry, your marriage certificate is too old. we can only accept items which are within the last 3 months".
Nationwide... froze all my money in the account and took everything i had in their savings account b/c someone deposited a cheque into my account fraudulently (i didn't even know this happened cuz i was using HSBC at the time.. got a letter and my money was taken away by them!!!).
Lloyds... not enough locations... |
