HOW DO WE REPORT or STOP the emails, going around, which prompts you to confirm your bankdetails? FAKE/ILLEGAL
I got an email with the Barclays Bank logos on it, with a link
http://www.barclays.co.uk.brccontrol.taskstart.lockerez.biz/detailsconfirm/
which looks JUST like the online banking at barclays and it prompts you to enter your account details and passwords... and digit codes...

THIS IS a SCAM!!! be careful! criminals record this info somehow and use it!

DONT put your details in... THEY will steal your money!
THIS is NOT emails sent from Barclays themselves!!!

It's a sad fact of life on the Internet nowadays but if you know how to handle this kind of junk it just becomes a minor annoyance. Use a good Virus Scanner, Spy-ware Remover & Firewall do regular system checks with them and keep them up to date. Use whatever tools you can in your Mail program to filter out the suspect stuff. If you've any doubt as to the authenticity of a communication check with your bank's URL direct not with the link in the mail.

There is nothing we can do about the scams except by not replying, not clicking on their links, and not giving out personal identifiable information to anyone by email, snail mail, or phone. There will always be less than honest people trying to steal the identify of unknowing people, so that they do not have to work themselves. It will catch up with them sooner or later.

It makes me mad though and I know it does you. Wish we could stop them entirely, but more will just keep trying.

My McAfee anti-phishing software picks up on it right away. Download internet explorer 7 from microsoft.com, it has anti-phishing software. NEVER REPLY TO AN EMAIL FROM ANY BANK/CREDIT CARD PROVIDER OR ANY OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTION -- IT WILL BE A SCAM!!!
Delete the messages immediately.

You're so right; I've gotten same type of email; we can't stop it, per se, but identify the email as Spam through your server (yahoo, aol, etc)

keepingthefaith
not to be rude--but don't put the link---!

banks do not send emails out asking for your bank details, etc
i get notification when there are scams going round, you must tell your bank a.s.a.p,
thank for letting us know hun!

You have to report these emails to the internet/email provider that they came from. If you aren't able to identify this yourself make sure you report it to 1) your email provider if they have a spam filtering option and 2) local trading standards. These emails are wide spread and well known so trading standards need all the evidence and info they can get to sort this out. You might also want to bring it to the attention of the bank they are pretending to be from, you can bet they want to get this stopped too!

I had one from Barclays too. I went to the OFFICIAL Barclays website, emailed them about this incident (forwarding the email I had recieved), and then about a week later I got a letter in the post saying that the senders of the emails were now on some sort of national list which I believe the police or trading standards or someone monitors.

If the server details are available on the email, report it to abuse@(email server name), and they'll take down the email account.

Please report this to the bank

I got one from Citi MasterCard and it asked me to download a programme which wiped my hard drive

No bank will legitimately contact their customers in this manner. DELETE DELETE DELETE

Barkley Hound
I guarantee they know about it. It is nothing new. Just hover over the link and you can see by the display that it is a spoofed site. What is even funnier I receive the notices on Yahoo. No bank I use knows my Yahoo email address and I don't bank with any of the banks I receive email from.
