HSBC have cancelled our debit cards, they won't let us get money over the counter what can we do?
They called today to say our cards had been cancelled because of suspected fraudulant activity. We checked our account online and all the transactions belong to us, they cancelled the cards anyway and we now have to wait 5-7 days for new cards. We tried to withdraw money with a bank statement and I.D at the counter but they won't allow us to have anything without us presenting a cheque book for the account. We don't have a cheque book so they ordered us one, guess how long it takes to arrive?: 5-7 days.

We have kids to feed and bills to pay, and no access to our own money, what can we do about this?

GO AND TAKE YOUR MONEY OUT, THIS WILL REALLY PISS THEM OFF AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO RELEASE SOME STEAM AS WELL, SORRY FOR THE CAPS

Speak with the manager. Provide copies of your ID and whatever else they want to prove your identity.

The manager should be able to work with you.

PJ
Do you have a credit card you can use until you have access to your funds? Otherwise, go to a bank manager and show them ID and tell them you want to withdraw some money. It is your money, if you have proper ID you should be able to withdraw funds.

monkeysophie
Definately speak to the manager! After it's sorted, change banks.

Did you speak to the bank manager or just the teller...if just the teller, get right back in there and speak to the manager...go to the one who makes the decisions. If you don't get anywhere with them...be very strong and persistant...but if you don't , how about getting a payroll loan until the week passes? Or perhaps you can borrow from family or friends?

They actually cancelled the cards? Thats BS, they can put holds on them, but cancelling them is BS.

Ive a feeling there isnt much you can do. Once they are cancelled they are dead.

You need to go to a branch and speak to someone, make it quite clear that them freezing your account is not helping you out too much right now.

hsbc, are bs you, go in there tell them hsbc have wrongly cancelled your card. they can and will give you a withdrawl slip if you complain enough, take id with you, if they refuse tell them they have to give you the money from your account or you will call the police. its your money and they cannot withold it from you. also make sure you withdraw enough to cover you till the cards arrive as they only allow one emergency encashment.
also think about changing banks because hsbc are the only ones that refuse you withdrawl over the counter.

Go over the heads of the counter staff and ask to see someone higher up.

If you still hit red tape and get no help, all I can think of is that, if you have family you can go to, you see if they can loan you enough to tide you over for a few days till the new cards come through and you can use your account again.

If you have bills during the interim that must be paid, contact the relevant departments and explain your situation and that you are going to be a few days late in getting them paid.

Hope things get worked out soon for you.

What HSBC is doing is holding cash and preventing the distribution of cash until they see what happens with this bailout by Congress. However, they are using a cheap, fraudulent tactic as a "red hearing" to divert your attention away from what their objectives really are. They, as well as other banks, are using this tactics to thousands of customers this week. You have one hell of a law suit once this is over. I suggest you go down to the HSBC branch and speak to the manager of the bank and raise livid hell. Once you get your money, pull it out and open a new account with a different bank and then talk to a few attorneys who will take your case on contingency and file a large law suit against HSBC for fraud and for coercion or whatever else applies. You cannot allow these financial institutions to use these mafia tactics on you especially in a time of your personal financial crisis. You have one hell of a law suit but just make sure that the sun doesn't go down on your anger as you need to hammer this bank just so they cannot do this to you in the future or to anyone else.

You can go down to the bank and just pull it out? Or how about writing a check?
