NatWest......... got back £196 last year out of £258 they screwed me out of in 2005.
Was pretty easy following the advice of these 2 websites:
http://www.fool.co.uk/news/your-money/current-accounts/2006/06/30/reclaiming-bank-and-card-charges.aspx

Yes, it was from Bank of America. Their fees are outrageous! I switched back to Washington Mutual. It was pretty easy to claim the money back. I went inside the bank and told the circumstances and I got my money back. BUT Washington Mutual is the best. Everytime I have had my card number stolen, I get my money back within the NEXT day. |

Yes, I have claimed back unfair charges twice. Once for presenting a cheque a second time after it had bounced the first time, and once for taking charges from my account without written warning they were doing so. A simple phone call on both occasions resulted in the charges being paid back into my account. |

I was reading a report about this in the Sun today. Go to www.moneysavingexpert.com and you can download the template letters to send to the bank. The guys name who wrote the article is called Martin Lewis and he said that as far as he is aware no-one who has tried to claim back the charges has lost - you need to tell the bank that you are taking them to the small claims court, and the banks don't want it to go to court as they know they will lose.
If you are in the UK try to get a copy of todays Sun or visit the website - it will tell you exactly what to do! |

All of the time. They try to charge you for a service you never agreed to ( or sometimes agreed to inadvertently by not sending back a disclaimer).... just call them and yell yell and yell! They will reverse the charges. |

From time to time over the last eight years my bank has hit me with a couple of boo-boo charges. But I have found that if I go in and talk to them they usually help me out and take off some, if not all of the charges. I've never had to yell. Community Bank and Trust has been a really great bank for me and my daughter. Their staff is great and they really look out for me. |

Yes, have been offered three steadily increasing amounts as I was unhappy with the chsrges brought against me for going overdrawn without an overdraft. While I do find it fair to charge me for not keeping up with my account I do not find it fair to charge over £100 for doing so. I complain by phone first, they offered an amount which I refused, then immediately offered a higher amount after speaking witha supervisor. I refused this also and they sent me their complaint process with their offer in writing. At this point you have 8 week to reply. I sent a simple letter explaining that I was still unhappy & they have made yet another higher offer. I am deciding whether to accept or continue complaint to Ombudsman. Banks make so much money from us, most of it unfairly as many people either do not know how to or have ability to complain or question amounts charged. I ahve been with this bank for many years and have many accounts so felt unfairly treated. If I have lost track of my bills going in and out then fair enough, charge me but don't charge me for each item separately then another charge on top of this then more charges next month as I as unaware I was been charged! It's not on and we should stand up to them. |

Many people claim unfair charges from their banks and whine about how they should get the charges back. Some get their money back and some don't. It depends on the bank and their policies,
If you follow the guidelines that the banks have set up you won't get charges to your account. It's as simple as that. Don't overdraw your account, keep the minimum balance, etc.
If you don't like what your bank charges or why it charges you then you should shop around until you find a bank that won't charge you or you should learn to manage your accounts better. |
