Has anyone ever had a bad experience with Abbey??

The bank? No but my husband has a business account with them and says they are rubbish.

They did a special on them today on Working Lunch and they did not come out looking very professional.

One woman had been waiting 72 days for a new bank card. Without it she couldn't even use internet banking. Had contacted them several times and each time been given a different reason.

I have had 2 different bad experiences with them,
Firstly, I wrote to them to cancel 1 account that I did not use (I had 3 at the time). A week or so later, (between Christmas and New Year) I got a letter to inform me that they had cancelled ALL of my accounts!
I rang them and asked what they were up to and one of their Indian call centres gave me the old, 'we do understand...we are sorry'...
They ordered a new card etc. that I had to wait 5 working days for...I received them in January!
Secondly, just recently (I have since switched banks) I wrote to them to set-up a new Direct Debit, to which I received a response in writing telling me that I had given the wrong Account No. and the Sort Code was wrong, and that they could not process my request...a bit odd, but OK...
Then, one Monday, I was suddenly over-drawn (I have no Over-draft and have NEVER been overdrawn).
Again, I called them and was told, ..We do understand...we are sorry...
The Supervisor (again in Indian Call-centre) told me that I would go on overdraft for 1 month, I wouldn't get charged and that I would get an apology letter...
A few days later, I received my letter - saying, 'Thank-you for requesting a new over-draft limit !??!!
I am still waiting for my apology letter - I wasn't interested at the time, but I now want one as a matter of principle.
And my bank account - SWITCHED!

Everytime i queue in the bank they make such a fuss about no more than 5 bags of coins deposited then allow people to hold up queues doing transactions that could be done at the enquiry desk.
When you ring for automatic banking the system is always down.
You get your overdraught fee charged every month but collected every 2 months.

No but they are updating the systems, it started last week and it is still being done so if you mean online banking etc then that explains it.

Thousands of people!
The "Money" section of the Sunday Times is dealing with them all the time, they are famous for their ineptitude.

No very good, no issues at all.

Now NATIONWIDE is another matter - They could not find their backside in the bath.

oh my gosh do not get me started on Abbey..its a poor excuse for a bank.
i used to work in one of their call centres, and it was chew on from day one, even before i got into the god damn call centre!
the offered me the job, then phoned me a week or so later to say they were thinking twice about giving me the job...because they found in my medical records id had depression as a result of a previous work place-after they told me to hand in my notice!
they then decided that i COULD have the job. They said theyd get back to me with a start date and time, and where i had to be on my first day-they gave me a start date, but never got back to me in regards to a start time....so i had to turn up almost an hour early to make sure i was there on time.
Its part of the contract that you have to have an Abbey account in order to get your wages paid into. They didnt take our bank details for almost 2 weeks, telling those people that didnt have an Abbey account (myself included) that someone from the local branch would be over to set accounts up with us. Fair enough, yeah? WRONG. Pay day was fast approaching, and with no joy getting a bank account set up, and no means of getting paid until I did have one, i decided to go over to the branch myself to set one up. Excpet they didnt have any appointments. After getting a little bit annoyed, the branch agreed to fit me in, so I had to negotiate with my Team leader, who wasnt in the least impressed, for an hour off so i could set the account up. Then whilst setting up my account in the branch, I was then told I COULDNT HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT BECAUSE MY CREDIT RATING ISNT GOOD ENOUGH. why do you need a good credit rating to open a fcking bank account?? I have a good credit rating, im 18, never been in a spot of trouble with money or debt IN MY LIFE! Kept my current bank account in a good manner so why say no? The woman in the branch appealed the decision, and told me she'd get back to me a couple of days later. All this while an irate man kicked off about his bank accounts too, screaming they were **** it was quite funny like. in the mean time, the call centre gave me a cheque and the branch had to open a basic account to put the money into.
Chew over, yeah?
NOPE.
I'd caught a cold part way through my training. I could barely speak, i'd lost my voice, felt dizzy and sick, yet they still made me take calls...I couldnt even talk! I put my head on the desk as the lights were hurting my eyes, only to be barked at and told to sit up.
During my time there, I was also doing my exams, and one day I needed the morning off work in order to sort something out with my college. I asked for the time off, they gave it but they weren't exactly happy. Despite the fact they'd granted another woman in my training session a 2 week holiday to go to Jamaica.....
I was already growing disheartened with the job, and so imagine my delight when i found a vacancy at the local hospital for a nursing apprenticeship. I seized the chance and applied. I was shortlisted...i was over the moon, being a nurse is my dream job. They asked me to an interview, so i asked Abbey for the morning off, i told them i'd work a later shift and they point blank refused, saying I'd be sacked if I did.....
So, I went for my lunch after hearing this. And ive never been back since....
They finally, after inviting me to two disciplinaries, got round to dismissing me a couple of weeks ago,
I never signed a formal contract, so i never had no legal rights.
They still owe me money, and Im still waiting for my P45 now.

Call themselves Abbey?
