Of course. Mint julips were 2 for a penny , gas was 28cents, ice cream was 50 cents a gallon and we used to buy a hold small bag of candy for 10 cents. I miss those days. Yes , this was in the early 60's. |

When we were kids we'd go and buy 4p worth of sweets from a local shop. You'd be lucky to get a paper bag for that now.
A few years ago I did go into a shop and ask if they had any sweets that cost 1p, just for a joke.... a group of us were really skint at the time so we all agreed to spend a fiver only on each other's birthday presents, so we said "a fiver - no more, no less". I got one friend something that cost £4.99, so I went to get a 1p sweet for a laugh, to stick in her card.
The shopkeeper looked at me like I was daft: "what?" and I just chose some sweets, Black Jack's I think. I got 100g, which is what I would've got anyway even if they were 1p each. |

Haven't spent a penny for a while but my son does at the sweet shop on Saturdays. Lots of pennies. I might join him next week and the man is so nice in the old fashioned sweet shop where we go I bet he wont laugh at me. |

Ahhh yes!!!.... Those were the days! Weren't they?? Well?!?!?! Weren't they???!?!?!!?!?! I remember when candy bars were only 12cents. Goes to show you my age..... OH, and gas was 38cents a gallon. To Cross the Verazanno narrows was only 40cents. I believe? A slice of pizza was 40 cents, and so was subway fare! |

Brings back memory's does 1/2p sweets. I used to get my 10p pocket money on a Friday and my mate used to get his on a Monday. On our pay day we would split it and go and but loads of 1/2p chews. Some used to be 3 for 1/2p and we would get loads. Blimey i am getting old i am starting to sound like my dad " i remember the days......" |

Well, I'm sorry, but there is no such thing as a half penny anymore. And I'm not sure if you can get things for a penny anymore. Basicly, this is cause of inflation. But, you know what, I don't think I've ever spent a penny. Maybe dimes, or quarters, but never just a penny. |

Oh yes. We used to get 2p each to spend at the sweet shop and could get 16 Mojos for that.
When I was a little older my mum got an evening job working in the same shop. I used to 'help' in school holidays by stringing paper bags together to hang up ready for use. I got paid in broken easter eggs. Mmmmm. |
