OK. The most important thing is, don't borrow any more money. Some debt advice involves borrowing money at a low rate of interest to pay off the high-interest loans. This is fine in theory but in practise most people just end up with another debt.

Look at all your expenses and see where you can cut down. Take a packed lunch instead of buying meals or snacks from a shop or canteen. Cut out unnecessary spending but leave yourself some entertainment. Get the idea?

Now look at your debts. Pay the ones that might make you homeless like rent and heating. The next level of debt is high interest debt, like credit cards or store cards. If you only pay the minimum off these they will take years to pay off and cost you a fortune. Try to pay more than the minimum off each month and STOP USING THEM. Try contacting the card companies to explain your predicament. They may offer you some help or advice.

Finally, you do not say if you are earning 400 dollars or pounds per month but, whichever it is, it isn't a lot. Perhaps your employer could help you. If not a raise, maybe you could do a few more hours a week or train for a better position. Don't just ask for the money, tell them what your problems are. Many people are prepared to help if they are approached in the right way.

In the UK there is an organisation called the Citizens Advice Bureau which will give you free advice or you could speak to your bank. Don't let your bank sell you a loan without advice from a debt counsellor though.

can't you get a full time job even at minimum wage you would still get double what you are getting now.

It would be better to be honest and let them know, get a part time job. If your business can only pay £400 a month is it worth continuing with. You can get £7.80 ph pushing trollies round asda carpark and you would have no stress. There is no point being self employed just for the sake of it.

Cut up your credit card.
Don't buy prepared/takeway food.
Don't buy any luxuries.
Pay of the highest interest debts first.

Hope this helps!

Stop spending and try and get a second job or a better paying job.

You have the right attitude in wanting to get rid of your debt. Ensure you do not add to the debt and always pay off the sums due each month if you can. Ensure you are claiming all the benefits you can such as tax credits or even a reduction in your council tax if your income is low. I would advise you to speak to someone at the Citizens Advice Bureau. You need to work out a plan to pay off the debt. There are some credit card companies which will give you 6 months free on balance transfers. This could give you some breathing space to pay off some of the debt. Anything you do pay off will reduce the interest payments. Try to produce a budget to see whether you can make savings anywhere.

try cutting down your spending on different things! im going on holidays in june and i need nearly £1000 to buy attraction tickets etc. so what ive done is ive quit the gym which was costing me £36/month, making my own lunches for work which will save me £15/week, cutting down on my drinking on nights out which will save me £20/week so so far il have made a saving of roughly £940 by doing those 3 things! so if you have any things and you could live without and is costing you a lot more then try and give it up!

You could earn an additional income and put it straight towards your debts.

If you are as disciplined as you sound I think you can do it.

Good luck.

The best thing to do is first to stop accumulating debt. The second is to either expand your business quickly to increase your income or to get a part time job to pay off your debt.

List you debt smallest largest. Start paying as much as you can on the smallest while still paying the minimum on the others. When you get that one paid off, take that money and start paying the next one off.

With this level of debt you might look towards getting a debt management plan. This is really only suitable if you are struggling with your payments (which seems like the case).

Although this won't clear your debts it will make your payments more affordable to you in the long term which seems to be what you need. As the plan is flexible you can change it if your circumstances turn-around for the better.

You say £6,000 is not a lot - if you are struggling to make payments to your creditors then the amount that you owe is indifferent. The fact is that your debt is high in comparison to the amount that you owe and that it is debt which is unaffordable to you.

The best advice that anyone can give on this site is to suggest that you seek help about your finances so you are clear about your options.

you are not even earning the minimum wage - are you claiming the benefits that you may be entitled to? You cant go on like this.
