Help with debt advice?

As above. C.A.B. should be your first port of call. Not only can they offer financial advice they can also offer legal advice. If you were pressured into taking out the loans and can prove that your ex had all the benefit from it (for example, you took out a loan and it went straight into his account) you may be able to get the debt transferred. It's a long shot, but , I just divorced and found that my ex had run up £18k in ny name without my knowing. It took 2 years but the entire debt was transferred to him!! Good luck to you, hope it all works out one way or the other.

GAR
CCCS (Consumer Credit Counselling Service)..its a registered charity so do not charge a penny for their advice. They only consider debts over £15,000, so that falls into a catergory for you. They give you sound advice and are exceptionally helpful.

Take a personal finance night class, adult education at a high school or community college. They can explain the best debt to pay off first. If you have a timeframe established, it is easier to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

GO STRAIGHT TO C A B THEY CAN HELP

you can entyer into a IVA which is a voluntary thing where you set up a plan of how much you can afford each month max - then you pay for 5 years - i belive that anything that hasnt been paid back in 5 years is written off. More and more people are going bankrupt now as it only blacklists you for a year - however there is social stigma with this and will affect credit etc for years to come!

kamikaze
go to the citizens advice centre they deal with this sort of thing all the time i know it will be hard but try and not worry .

grumpcookie
go to your local citizens advice. they have trained debt advisors that can help.

debzc
Have a look in the phone book for your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They will be able to help you.

I would see a citizens advice bureau first, they give free advice, even if it is only to point you in another direction like a debt management company.
Good luck, I think that you are taking the right steps, and not straight into one of these consolidation loan companies.
