Hey all....In January of this year, my best friend asked me to borrow $300.00?
because she needed to go to the doctor. She thought she might have kidney stones. She does not have health insurance, so I did not hesitate to help her out. I gave her a check and she cashed it and went to the doctor. So far, during the month of February she gave me a told of 60.00...I talk to her over the phone all the time and I even saw her today, she did not even mention oweing me anything. I really care about this person but I am hurt that she has not even made an effort to try to pay me anymore on the balance. She owes me $240.00..Would someone please help me out here and tell me how do I approach the situation without loosing my friend..? I am so worried that I might loose her friendship, but at the same time, if she was a REAL friend, she would at least offer. Thank you for you help....

Yes u r right if she was a real friend she would have offed the money back. If she was a real friend she would have made so arrangement on how to pay the money back.

You were her friend by helping her out and that what friends do. I would go to her and tell her how u feel. I would honestly tell her, u let her borrow the money out of concern as friends do.

You know sometime people are quick to call someone a friend or state they love someone and don't ever know what it means.

I 'm not condoning her behavior but u may have to teach her how to be a friend, scary but true. Like I said some people don't know how to be friends.

Let her know how u feel and if she don't arrange a way to pay your money back or apologize, then she not a true friend.

I think u know the answer deep inside.

Good Luck

You got a lot of good answers. Perhaps if you took $50.00 off the balance, she'll pay it in full. You're lucky it was only $300.00. My wife and I just found out our 33 old son never bought a car when we mailed him a check for $9,000 last year.

just let her know that you need money.., she might thought that u r not in need of money.., thats y whe might have delayed.., just convey your feelings so that she can keep this in mind

Conduct business in a business-like manner. That is not to say you have to be void of compassion, but you don't have to be gullible either. All relationships are tested. Those that weather those test successfully, become wonderful experiences. Those that fail redirect you elsewhere. I do hope the two of you are able to resolve this, but if not, love and leave.

do you know how many people could tell you the same story? When you loan a friend or family money, you might as well call it a gift.

3 things to always remember when dealing with family and friends: don't lend money unless you can afford to not get it back, don't discuss politics, don't discuss religion

If you keep those tips in your head from now on, you will be better off in the long run.

Unless you have an IOU with all of the repayment terms set up, consider this a painful lesson in friendship. Let the $300, and your friend, go.

This is how friendships end!
I lost one of my closest friend because she didn't care about giving me back the money she owed me and it's often like that. So do like me: NEVER lend money to anybody. This way you will keep your friends.

Looks like you got your first life lesson in lending money to a friend. Namely, don't. Now, you need to determine something, how important is this money versus how important is this friendship. If you really value the friendship, I would write off the loan and consider it a gift. If you really need the money, tell her "Look, I'm sorry to bring this up and I hate to nag you, but I really need to get that money back that you borrowed from me."

From now on, never loan money to or borrow money from friends or family. If you need a loan, go to a bank. If someone needs money from you, either give it as a gift or say "sorry, I wish I could help you out, but that isn't in my budget right now"

It is most favourable point that it is not a big amount. Now you can say your friend that you have purchased something and you have to pay amount in short time and your payment is short of $150 so your friend do a favour to you and give you $150 immediately so your problem is solved otherwise you would lose your esteem before that( imaginary) person. then observe behaviour of your friend , it would clear you all of your future plans.

Hate to say this but there is no way to do it with out hurting them or the friendship. Your right if she was a "real freind" (there is a difference) she would at least let you know how and when she can pay you back. but it seems to me you are getting burned. I know from experience this has happened to me too many times and this is one of the warning signs

Separate the friendship from the money. Just figure the money is gone and don't lend her any more. Some people are not good with money but that doesn't mean they are thieves. Forgive her (mentally) and go on in life. If this is the only $300 that you lose in life it will have been a cheap education indeed.
