Right im 18 and doing driving lessons got my test comin up very soon but i want to take a loan out for my car. Got my eyes on a gorjus 106 GTI.... want £3500 my bank has refused me one and so have many other places. they keep telling me a need a credit rating???? hot the hell can i get one if no one is willing to give me a loan to build up the credit rating.... i really need some help mum and dad cant take it out as they have enough on there hands! please HELP!!!!!! really want this car!! |

Go to a bank and apply for a "student card". These usually have very low credit limits. Use the card for a few months and pay off the balance every month on time. No one will give an 18 year old a loan when there is no history of them being able to pay the loans back - hence the credit rating measurement.
It may take awhile to get a good rating but after a few months you can apply and probably get the loan. you've gone 18 years without a car, 3-4 months won't kill you. |

Forget the loan. Taking out a loan when you're a student is not a very intelligent idea.
Just be happy with a basic car which will be sufficient for your needs then when you have enough money of your own, go out and buy the car of your dreams.
That £3500 loan will triple before you know it. |

get over it...you cannot get a car that nice as your first thing on your credit it won't happen! Sorry buddy but unless you parents buy it which it sounds like they won't you are stuck driving a crapper for a few years until the bank trusts you! The way you can build credit is to get a credit card with a low limit and always always pay it off in full or to seek out smaller loans...like a few hundred not a few thousand!!! Good luck, but really everyone has to deal with starting out with low credit! It's not easy but your not the only one! |

Have you been watching the news/reading the papers recently? You don't need this car. Why would you want to put yersel into debt at such a young age for summat that will cost ye an arm and a leg? Have you worked out cost of fuel/insurance etc etc?
I know this is not what you wanted to read/hear, but you gotta be realistic. You can't afford the motor, you can't have the motor. You could however, put a quid on the lottery tonight and get lucky!! It's only 14million-1 odds o winning!!!!!!! |

You could have a look at this.
Your mum and dad may even be interested and they could help you earn the money quicker, you could even save it up so you don't need the bank loan.

Hi I'm 19 and was in exactly the same situation as you!
I had taken loads of driving lessons and had failed my test a couple of times, I wasnt a bad driver i just needed plently more practise, so i decided to buy a car!
I brought a Renault clio, which was £3000. I had £1,500 in savings but it was going to take practiaclly FOREVER to save that amount again, so i went to my bank for a loan. I am with Nationwide and to borrow £1500 over one year would mean repayments of £134 per month. They just checked that I had enough money coming into my account regularly (from work) to prove that I could afford the repayments. I didnt really have much credit history apart from I have a New Look card and a Topshop card which I had to prove I pay off my balance in full each month. Being good with your store cards helps you to build up a good credit history!
You should budget for insurance costs too. It was £850 to insure my car, but luckily I can pay that off in monthly installments. Remember to leave yourself with enough for anything which could go wrong, and also for tax and MOT's and things like that!
My only other idea is if perhaps you have a Grandparent or something you could borrow off and pay them back monthly?

The odds of you bending your first car are pretty high, higher with those three magic letters there. Imagine the heartbreak of writing this tug off and having to carry on paying for it for another three to five years. Get a banger, you can still have fun and if the inevitable happens, it will be easier in the long run. |

I was 20 when i went to my bank and asked for a loan. I had no credit rating either, i had a full-time job so they said i could have one! I have since built up my credit rating by buying a laptop from comet on a deal of paying it over 6months. If i go over the 6months i get a bad credit rating.
Have you not tried places that do loans for no credit rating/bad credit such as yesloans? |

are you a student? capitalone, boa, 1fbusa all have student cc's...however in order to increase your score never utilize more than 30% of the available credit, pay more than the minimum due and it's wise not to pay cc's off all at once - it can actually bring your score down - it happened to me.. |

Find out how much your bank is willing to loan you and lower your sights for a car to that range. Pay off the loan as fast as you can. Then you have credit. Then you can trade in the car you didn't want and get your GTI ! Other option is to get a credit card to establish credit, but this usually takes longer. Start with a beater car and pay it off in 3-6 months. Good luck! |
