You should spend no more than 1/3 of your net income on housing. So if you make 2950 a month, you'll keep roughly 2500 a month after taxes in the usa. That means your home can be 833 dollars a month including insurance, which means you can afford 623 in actual mortgage. You could afford to pay a mortgage of 85,000 comfortably, but the total price of the home would be 100k ish. This doesn't include PMI which you have to pay until you pay 20% of the home. Anyway, many people will probably answer higher, and the mortgage companies would approve someone on that salary for a more expensive home, but following good finance, that's all this family could afford. Hope that helps:)
As far as the extra 160 goes, that comes out of your other income because you can afford it since your house price is reasonable. |
