Most rich people don't seem to feel the need to tell other people they are rich (hint, hint) but that is an excellent salary, you have every right to be proud of it. For me, 2-3 million dollars saved (not salary) puts you in the rich category, but other opinions may vary.

Like someone else mentioned if your salary is 1 million per year, but your expenses are 1.1 million per year, your headed for bankruptcy, not wealth.

Rich is relative.... $30,000 a year sounds like not much to the average American, but it's a fortune to anyone from a developing country.
Also, income isn't necessarily the best indicator of wealth - if someone makes $100,000 a year, but is $250,000 in debt through reckless spending, then their "wealth" is an illusion.

If you're rich, you are the one paying people to work for YOU!

According to banking standards, you are considered "high" income bracket if you make 150% of the median income in your area in a given year.

However, a high income alone does not make you rich. Most people would say that having a high net worth, as in the upper 1-5% of your locality, makes you rich.

Yet some only consider this "paper" rich. A sociologist by the name of Bourdieu only considers you truly affluent if you possess not only high levels of resource capital (money), but also high levels of cultural (education, health, talent, ambition), symbolic (respect) and social (network, connections) capital.

So in the end, it's up to you to decide what you consider rich.

that is rich unless you wasted all your money every time you get paid

I think you are rich if you make at least $1,000,000 per year.

Well compaired to my tiny 53,000 your F'n rich to me. But it also come's down to where you live. If your in LA or New York city then it's not nearly the same as if you lived in Themiddleofnowwhere, WV. 180K a year...your doing pretty damn good for yourself! Good Job!

Im not sure about rich, but wealthy is when you acquire anything and everything your heart desires

your salary doesnt matter
if you spent 180,000 a year and are 500k in debt your still poor
it depends on how much you save a year

Schulp
It's not how much somebody makes in a year that determines whether you're rich or not.
Wealthiness is determined by your net worth, which is the value of all your assets added up and then you subtract all your liabilities (mortgages, loans, etc.).
It's more realistic not to add cars and your primary residents into the list of assets.

Your annual income does not say much whether you can build wealth or not. If you make 180k and are able to keep 120k a year for investing you'll be building wealth. If you're making 180k, but spending 200k, you're living rich, but end up poor.

I'd say if your net worth is above 2 million you're rich. Other's might say it takes 5, others consider someone rich if it's 1, it's all relative.

Thornton Wilder says, "Money is like manure; it's not worth a thing unless it's spread around encouraging young things to grow."

To be considered rich in our society you have to own your own home free and clear, plus own at least a second home, also free and clear ... both have to be in luxury places.
You also cannot be dependent on a pay check to be considered one of the rich.
You need to have plenty of money to fall back on ... money to support your family and all your cars and collectibles.
You should have at least a million in your bank accounts that is accessible to you at any time.

An income of at least $1 million per year --- puts you in the lower categories of the rich people of America.

Winston Churchill said, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

"I made 50 million bucks yesterday. That's a flameout I could get used to." Conrad Black

"There is no class so pitiably wretched as that which possesses money and nothing else." Andrew Carnegie

"Money is plentiful for those who understand the simple laws which govern its acquisition." George Clason
