If you fall into this category you are poor. It is what is folks.
1.Have a cellphone but no house phone, means you are poor(No way to justify this, dropped signals and a hot cellphone battery means poor.
2. You have a laptop but not a desktop computer(if you are not poor you will have both.) Incase a Neighbor or Family member comes over you have something extra to use. If you don't take this step, it show not only you are poor but also selfish to others.
3. If you have less than 4 TV's in your current home, even broken ones(count). No one shouldn't have less than 4 TV, if you do then you are poor. (You are only excluded if you have a studio/1bedroom. If you have a 2bedroom- 1 in each room, living room and a broken one somewhere.
4.If half of your household goods have been purchased from walmart you are poor. Try going to Target or Montgomery Ward.

You obviously have no clue what it's like to be truly poor. I'm guessing that you are very young and naive (look it up). Once you've actually been out in the REAL world and take a look around, you will realize that the people who have the posessions that you critcize are not poor and all and are probably some of the richest people in the world. Get a clue! |

LOL! I guess I'm not poor by your definition, but I must digress on the cell phone issue. I have no land line by choice. When I realized I was paying for a phone line we NEVER used anymore, I got rid of it. We have internet through our cable company. We all have cell phones, and I don't think poor people would pay for four of them. I can walk to the fire department and the sheriff's substation from my house, so I'm not too concerned about the land line/911 thing. And no, I don't live in the woods, I just happened to buy a house near those places.
Also, many very rich people just don't think that material things are that important, so you can't really judge wealth based on what someone's house or clothes look like. I work for a lawyer, and I've worked in banking in the past. I meet a lot of people and have reason to know about their finances. You'd be surprised at how far in debt people are who have all the material objects in the world, and you'd be shocked at the hardworking, dirty old rednecks I've known with MILLIONS in the bank. |

wow that is really materialistic. we only have a desktop computer for instance, i do not need to supply a computer for guests and such. it makes no sense to me. if my friends come over, they are not coming to use my computer. we have three tvs one in each bedroom and one in the living room. that is plenty. why if you are not poor do you need all this crap? i for one prefer for my house not to be cluttered with stuff. we donate all our extra things to people who need them. we are not rich, but not poor. we are average. just not materialistic |
