How are you dealing with the high rise in gas and food prices lately?
Prices have gone up an insane amount in the last month or so. I'm starting to get a little worried on how we, as a community, will be able to survive. Essential items are becoming SO expensive.

I can't agree more. My fiance works 29 miles from our home and I work 20. They are in opposite directions ( so no chance of carpooling) I buy most of my groceries ( shelf stuff and frozen) from the 99 Cent Only stores. Leaving, Milk, Cheese and Toilet paper for the major chains. Thankfuully my fiance and I are paid opposite of each other so every friday we have a check. We are always helping eachother out with gas until the next one gets paid. I spen $100- $130 in groceries every 2 weeks. I get alot at the 99 Cent ONly store for $65. But then when I go to the major chains. I might pikc up 6 or 8 items, and spend $65. What's the deal! Thankfully my fiance gets paid well. I make $12/hr, and I know i would be in alot of trouble without him. I cant wait for the government to loosen up their grip around my neck. They truley are strangling us! How do you choose food over gas. I need to get to work to earn the money to put food on the table, but if I dont have anything to eat then what?.,.......

1. I Bought a bicycle and I try to bike to work (only 4 miles) most days of the week.
2. I am buying much less food and am trying to make it last longer.
3. The good thing about this is that I am losing some weight. GEE eating less and exercising more... Who would of thought.
plus I help the environment by driving less.
Think globally and act locally.

It's time to switch to generic products, cut down on leisure activities that involves driving& plan better when cooking to avoid wastages,,,

You do exactly what you always do when the relative price of something rises. You consume less of it.

It is ridiculous! and i agree with dodomeat on this one.

Stay on YA as much as possible instead of going out for entertainment!

There are a couple of ways to help...although they only help in small ways.
1) Fill you gas tank in the wee hours of the morning. The pumps are not calibrated for changes in temperature. As any liquid warms, it expands. The pumps will be cooler earlier in the morning. Thus, you'll receive a slightly larger amount of gasoline for the same amount of money.
2) Never let your tank fall below half full. Gasoline is a volatile liquid. This means that there are always gasoline vapor in the airspace in your tank. As you fill the tank with liquid, it displaces that air space outwards. Filling half a tank means you only lose that amount of evaporated gasoline. An almost empty tank has a greater amount of gasoline vapors to lose. Half a tank also means you can look (a little) for the least expensive gas station.
3) Stock up when food items are on sale. If you don't own a deep freezer, it might pay off to purchase one. Round steaks on sale today can freeze for up to a year. Tomatoes on sale in the summer can freeze for sauces, etc.

The Cat thinks he's GOD
My husband already has installed several things onto his truck that will increase fuel economy. It doesn't matter when we are pulling out stumps with it though! We are eating out more at the Flying J truckstop restaurant instead of others because we get a fuel credit for our purchases. Their food isn't half bad. This month, I've got a 15 cent per gallon discount on gas for my little SUV and we are just about at a 20 cent per gallon discount for next month. My neighbors grow their own veggies and we usually get to share. I'm thinking of putting in a veggie garden and an extra fruit tree.

It really has me worried, my husband works at store that is at least 30 miles 1 way, and the food price is getting real bad, I don't know how people on a fixed income make it. The medications are to an extreme, I had to change all my meds on generic. The government needs to quit lining their pocket and think about the citizens, the government really doesn't care, and I don't see none of the ones running for president to change thing. I always think about what the bible says about this mess and it's actually happening. I try to make a circle when I have errands to run and as far as vacation, I don't think there will be one, but my husband doesn't seem to grasp whats going on he is still doing the same as a year ago, he has a corvette and I bought a small car for him to drive for work, that corvette takes premium and he still drives it, what a dork. I'm not his mother and I keep telling him drive the small car, it's like he does it to spite me, we also have a f 150 truck that drinks gas so I will drive when I have to. If anyone has any ideas please tell me. God bless you.

I'm going to start eating only the cheapest food and thereby produce my own gas. Sorted!
