FizzDude | How can I ensure I survive on £55 for the next 3 weeks? |
Due to unforseen cicumstances I've had to basically pay out everything in my bank account to cover the cost of repairing my kitchen which went on fire and was nothing more than a shell at the end of it. I've paid for a new kitchen to be installed, along with new appliances but have found myself stuck with about £55 to live on until my next pay day. I don't have any family that I can ask for money and I'm really pretty worried about the outlook. All my bills are paid this month as they come off as direct debit on the 1st of every month, so basically it's a case of food, gas and electricity. What tips can you give me? do you think I can do it and could you?
Thank you,
John Hunter. |

Plenty of people live on this amount, you should be able to get by no problem.
With food, try the less expensive shop brands, and cut back on luxuries if you normally have any. Chocolate, prawns, deli bits and pieces, they dont really fill you up, nice to nibble on, but you need to cut bck on the stuff that costs a lot but doesnt really make a meal.
Put away £20 of it for the gas & electric, then you have £15 for food. This doesnt seem much, but if you go for things like soup - approx 40p a pack, its filling and cheap.
Shops own label basic price pasta is prety much the same as the more expensive ones, you can get a HUGE bag in Asda for £1.
I dont know what shops you have near you, but shop around, look at the following site....
www.madaboutbargains.co.uk
it shows all the supermarkets and what offers they have on - buy one get one free, half price, 3 for 2 etc.
Sorry about your kitchen, must have been awful for you, its only a few weeks, so you should be able to manage ok.
Good luck!!

Go to tesco and only buy the value range. Plenty of basics like Bread, Pasta and Rice. Don't get distracted by what's on offer as I guarantee the value stuff will be a lot cheaper. As for Gas and Electric, Wait until pay day to pay those bills. If you're on a token meter only buy £5 for the week, If it runs out, leave it for one day before you get another £5.
Dig out candles If you have any and use those rather than lights. Don't use the computer, read books instead. Turn EVERYTHING off at the mains unless you're using it that second.

Ebay- Do you have any old books, CD's, or unwanted gifts etc lying around collecting dust? If so, sell them on ebay!
Do you have any old mobile phones lying around that you no longer need? If so you can trade them for cash at http://www.envirofone.com
Or you could get a short term "pay day loan" from http://www.paydaynow.co.uk/ |

plenty of cereals should see you through b-fasts, bags of rice and pasta are handy to have in as a basis for a decent meal along with mince, chicken and a few jars of sauce mixes. Tins of cornbeef & Tuna are good basics as well, make large portions and freeze some. If you live on your own it is possible, i managed to live on my own for sometime on roughly the money you are talking. It soon improves your culinary skills and can actually be quite rewarding when you taste some of the results you can create. |

For food? Get lots of spuds, rice and veggies, have showers instead of baths, walk everywhere and count every penny.
If you have no kitchen this makes things more difficult, but if you have access to 2 gas burners you should be OK.
Good Luck. |

walk to work. walk anywehre you dont need to use a car.
unplug things when you're done using them (still uses electricity when plugged in, but not "on").
Drink water...no need to get soda, alcohol or milk or juices.
get some bread and lunch meat and cheese. you can make grilled cheese, sandwhiches, toast.... =)
Good luck! |

buy at butchers and green grocers and buy in bulk - enough to get through 3 weeks - not your veg or fruit - that'll go off!!
make lots of bolognese, curries etc and store in freezer - making own sauces from produce from green grocers and canned tomatoes - shops own make if at somerfields or any of the big chains - usually 25 pence / can!!
do not go out!! rewatch any old dvds you have.
have early nights
don't buy any fast food - too expensive!!!
give up smoking and drinking for 3 weeks - it'll make you feel better as well!!
start a keepo fit regime - jog around the streets etc etc - no gym necessary!!!
keep yourself busy - beat the boredom - do you have a garden?? Its spring!!!
You can do it.... but bloody hell its gonna be hard my mate!!
Good luck!!!! |
