I cannot get involved with a business that will take advantage of me, I am a single with a two year old. I don't currently have something that I can trade in and I don't have anyone that I can borrow money from. And no money to put down.

buy a cheaper car, look in the paper for older cars in good condition. Old Cadillacs and other "luxury" cars are generally reasonably priced and well taken care of. Station wagons go cheap too, they're not as popular as little sporty cars...... |

Your best solution is a buy here pay here auto dealership. They work with people with bad credit. You will need atleast a thousand dollars or 500 in some place. Getting a loan from a major dealer ship is out of the question, however buy here pay here are a blessing for us low beacon score citizens. I have a score lower than yours and I have a 2002 Chrysler Concord LXI. My payments are like 325 a month but I am driving a nice car that gets me to where I need to go. |

You can ... but financing a car is for chumps.
Save up for a beater, trade up every 8-10 months to a nicer car as you pay what WOULD have been a car payment into a dedicated savings account.
The advantage of this is that you receive interest rather than paying it, and if you have a crisis, you won't have a scheduled payment eating up your income.
If you can buy ugly cars and spend a weekend here and there doing some cosmetic work on them, you will be able to sell them privately for about what you pay. Even if you take a small hit on the trade, it is far better than being in debt for 6 years on something that DROPS IN VALUE. |

I am young and have limited credit. When I went to get a car, the dealer had a tough time getting me approved for a loan because I had no down payment. What the dealer did to get me approved was tell the lender that the price of the car was actually $1000 higher than what it was and he gave me a "dealer rebate" of $1000 so it looked like I put that money down. See if the dealer is able to play those games for you! |

Unfortunately you will probably have to go to one of the "buy here pay here" type places and you are looking at a very high interest rate, proabably 19% or more. There are some that are legitimate, but you have to be careful. Research any company through the BBB and your local chamber of commerce to see how many complaints have been made.
There are some that will report to the credit bureaus which will help improve your credit when you pay on time each month.
My husband and I used one two years ago when my car died and our experience was a good one. Once our credit improved we were able to refinance to get a lower interest rate and will be trading up soon. Good luck! |
