Well first off that was an extreme move you made to lend that much towards a friend (and not to mention that you must have LOTS of trust towards them).
Just ask for payments back. If he/she refuses you can file it yourself through small claims court and you can ask the judge for the time off work for appearing in court and interest and reimbursement for the filing fee. |

Take him to court, the fact that you wrote loan on the check is proof enough. |

Lesson for the future, only ever lend money that you expect and can afford never to see again. |

Unless you have a written agreement that is legally binding (like a contract drawn up by a solicitor) you don't have much chance of getting this money back. Having him as 'payee' only says that you paid him the money. It doesn't say it was a loan and required repayment, or if it was for services or goods. So your chances of getting the money returned are virtually nothing, I'm afraid.
Unless you can come up with a witness or some binding documentation to support your claim, I suggest you kiss your money goodbye, and treat this as a learning experience.
If you do have documentation, I would start by getting a lawyer to write a legal letter requesting payment. That might scare him into action. Depending on where you live (I'm an Aussie so I'm not sure my advice would be relevant) there is probably a small claims tribunal or some other low budget legal service that can help you. I would go to your lawyer and ask what they recommend.

Charge him high interest on each payment made untill the full amount of the loan is repaid. |

I would say your friend is about to lose a friend.....I guess you will have to take him to court. Friends don't loan friends large amounts of money. |

work into a conversation your having money problems and then just be like so are you on your feet yet because i could really use those 15000 to save up for the rent or something like that. |

Do you have any sort of document or signed IOU claiming how much you loaned him? You can take him to small claims court. Make sure you have all your proof that it was actually a loan so that he can't claim that you gave it to him. |

I know some illegal ones you can take...
Legally, you gave him the money. Unless you sue him for sexual harassment, he has no obligation to give you the money back, other than being a nice person. |

Take it to court. If it was a loan the courts will make him pay it back. Over $15,000 and it isn't small claims anymore you will have to go in front of a regular court.
Don't ever loan out that much to a friend again. Lending money is a sure way to lose a friend especially a large sum like this. |

You have to file a suit agaisnt your friend. You file a complaint, it is a small charge. The price ranges from $155 to $185 in Florida. By the way, you take this individual to large claim court since the dollar amount is over $5,000. |

take it to court! If you track your check book, your chances of winning are high! |

You should take him to court.
But just know that you realy shouldn't lend out that much money unless you are 200% certain and guaranteed that you'll get it back.
Good Luck!

none if you don't have proof that it was a loan and a contract or something stating the legalities in which it was suppose to be repaid...if you have those then get an attorney but he still might say it was a gift it's a toughie unless you got something other the the cheque to prove it with |
