you can go to a bank and get your own card as long as you're over 16 |

I'm sure it probably varies by state and bank. You didn't say how old you are but I know I just opened my daughter a checking account at Bank of America and she is 16.(which is the youngest age I have seen). Also I was informed that a savings account can have your's and your parents name on it and you both have to sign to withdrawl money. So depending on your age and state you live in can vary so your best bet is to call your local bank and ask. Good luck!! |

it depends on how old you are. I work at a bank and if the account is "IN TRUST" that means iits really not ur acct but ur mothers, in trust for you, and you cannot have ur own debit card. If the acct is in just your name then go in and say that you want a new card and they will give you one.. but from the sounds of it it sounds like its just in trust, ask your bank or ur mother theyll ahve the details :) gl ! |

Is it a checking account of a savings account? If you already have a checking account, just call your bank or go in and ask them about getting a debit card. Your mom will still be on the account because you're under 18 but the card will be in your name and you'll be able to use it anywhere credit and debit are accepted and ATMs giving you access to your money.
If it's a savings account, you'll need to open a checking account to get a debit card. If you have both a checking and savings account with the same bank, it's really easy to transfer money between the two and usually you can even do it online. |

i think at age 18 you can go to the bank and get your parents taken off of your bank account so only you have permission to do stuff with it |

You sure they are debit cards and not ATM cards? A minor can get an ATM card, but you cannot have your own account until 17/18 (state laws/bank policy). Then you have to open a new account without your parents. |

The answer to your question depends on your age. |

My younger sister and brother both had to have my mom with them whenever they went to the bank. They were underage and had to have accounts that had my mom's name on them also. As soon as they turned 18 they went with my mom to close those accounts and opened another in their own name, without my mom. I don't know if you can get your own account if you aren't 18. |

Perhaps you should start by discussing this with your mother. |

Your mom has a credit card and she can get you one that's connected to the same bank account that hers is to.
You can use that one. |

In Switzerland you can open up a bank account, no questions asked. They just give you a number, and you are on your way, no names, no ID, nothing. |
