Doris W | How can I help my family, if I loose my home.? |
We've been here in this country 26 years. Have worked 72 hours a week to get our kids the life everybody deserves. Now we are at an age close to retirement, lost our business because of the economic situation and depending now on our son to help us. Our daughter (a drug addict) has finaly been clean for 4 months. We took her boyfriend in to help him to stay clean, both are doing very well and trying to help us out. Now my son, 38 single , in who's house we all live has been diagnosed with Meniers desease. He is a selfemployed Automechanic, used to work 6 days a week,12-14hrs a day. The desease is dissabling him to a point that he is loosing money on a daily base, because he can't walk or even move his head. He fell behind with his morgage and the bank is foreclosing him, if he can't pay the $ 6000.00 he is behind. We try to pay him $ 700 on rent, thats all we can afford. Now what else can we do but pray, now that finally we have our daughter back from drugs and a family again. |

It is indeed a tragic story of long struggle but we ought to follow our destiny. Moreover, if we were used to working 12 hours a day, why not to coninue to work at least say 6 hours a day to maintain good health and to support family. each one in the family would work and in my opinion things will improve. After we do our part, almighty will help as he helped to improve daughter.May God help you. |

Sorry about your situation. I have no real advice, but just wanted to say that I am praying for you and your family. If you have insurance then I would "fall asleep with the stove on". |

God will see you through this. Now, aside from praying, you need to seek state or county assistance for your son's medical condition and seek out a house you all can rent thats affordable |

Was your son paying for self employment disability? Has he applied for government SSI/disability? It's a long process and still in question as to whether or not Meniere's is an actual disability so he'll probably end up going to court to fight an appeal. That's just the reality. Are any of you considered citizens of the US? You haven't mentioned that. There is no cure for Meniere's but there may be treatments that can help. You will find the internet has support groups for Meniere's. Also check whether there is a hearing and speech agency in your area. They may have referrals for help. You mentioned prayer... that can't hurt. It is good that your daughter has made an attempt to recovery from addiction but realize that is an ongoing thing. She can also use assistance from therapy (and prayer). You have many things going on in your lives and you need to support each other emotionally as well as financially. None of us can offer help, only encouragement. It's really up to finding social service agencies ... Check with United Way ... to get counseling and find out if there are any programs that you qualify for. Don't give up!!! There is only so much that parents can do for their children and it sounds like you've done well as parents. The rest is up to God but a little social service agency assistance won't hurt. Don't wait for your ship to come in ... swim out to meet it. |

First, please do not attempt any of these "get rich quick" schemes who prey on the desperate who might be willing to be sucked in. Next, there are 4 people capable of working that should be able to come together for the money in your household. It is tough but your daughter and boyfriend are eligible for support programs that also provide networking for recovering addicts (AA or other addiction support groups even online). You lost your business as a result of the economy slump which means you are likely to be eligible for government assistance. Would your son not be able to file for some emergency injunction on the foreclosure due to his health? At least for 6 months to come up with the money that is owed and possibly seeking out non profit agencies associated with Meniers disease. There is a non profit group out there for just about anything so check and see. Also, go to your local Social Security office, Human Services office, even if someone among you served in the military, then check with the VA. There has to be an advocate for your son somewhere as long as you are willing to work to come up with the money, there's no reason that something can't be done. Don't take no for an answer!! Good luck and God Bless! |

You know, it sounds like yall have been through a lot together, and have made it this far, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that yall pull together and make it through another tough situation. That's what families do. You should feel very blessed to have such a wonderful family. |

You've had a spate of bad luck. While securing a future for your children, you were sacrificing your own. And the disease stealing your son's occupation away from him is truly unfortunate.
Your son may be able to collect some sort of disability from Social Security. Call your local office. Did he buy any disability insurance in his business? That would also help. Sorry your business failed. Can you start up another? Can your daughter and her boyfriend help with it. It sounds as though they both owe you from the help you provided getting them over their addictions.
In the meantime, the entire family needs to reign in expenses. You really need to tighten all your belts. No eating out, no cable, no cell phones, etc. Good luck to you! |

Four of you can work or three is someone needs to care for your son. With 3-4 working adults you should be able to keep up the mortgage until he can sell his house. Then you will need to rent something so that might cost as much as paying the back mortgage payments. Your son may need to go to a nursing home and the other 4 of you take two jobs each to stay above water. |
