Here is my problem. I am in a situation where I have more bills than I have money coming in. I cannot get a conventional part-time job because I have a baby at home and one on the way. I would like to find a way to make money working from home, but I don't want to be scammed.

After my wife had our first child we moved. I had a better job opportunity, but still not quite lucrative enough to be a one wage family even after cutting expenses. My wife considered finding another job, yet after daycare costs and other expenditures she found that she'd be away from our new child for a net gain of a few dollars per hour at best. Even working from home seemed difficult because children take full time attention. It seemed as though there must be a better way to make ends meet.
There was a better way. She became a fitness instructor at a local gym. She earns about $25-$50 a class depending on the club.
Daycare. While teaching the classes, she uses the club's daycare for free. The classes are only 1 hour long so time in daycare for the kids is really minimal.
Social time. For my wife it gave her time away from the kids for an hour or two each day to be with adults in a low stress envirnonment. (What mother doesn't need some low stress time in her day!)
Flexible schedule. She decides when she wants to teach a class. Now that the kids are in school, she teaches in the morning and early afternoon.
Excellent physical shape. She's always in great shape.
Club membership. Some of the clubs where she teaches include family membership privileges so I can also use the club!
She started 12 years ago. We're well past the financial crunch, we have four children, and yet she still teaches yoga, core fitness, spinning, and kick boxing classes. She loves it.
In the past she taught as many as 10 classes per week. During holiday seasons she would subtitute teach other instructor's classes for a few extra bucks. It's not going to make you rich but it can provide excellent supplemental income with really great benefits.
Try visiting a national chain's local gym and inquiring about how to become an instructor. A chain of gym's like 24-Hour Fitness or Bally's will have an easy path to train you for the job. The pay will be light because you don't have experience, but the training and on-the-job experience will lead to other opportunities. |
