How can a 15 year old teen guy make money and save money? (good stratagies or tips?)?
I have a HUGE spending problem... Anytime I see something I want I take my paycheck (i have a job) and spend it. Now i would certainly like to keep this life style however my parents yell at me and tell me i must save (i no i have to). i was wondering if there are any good strategies for pooling in more money and or saving tips. some of my spending habits include eating at restaurants, going on shopping binges (shoes, shirts etc) and buying educational stuff (psat stuff, ap stuff etc) and the biggest problem is just not spending i get like a high when i buy stuff seemingly...

well the best tip is not to have cash on hand for purchases.

i automatically deposit all into the bank. i transfer some into a high yield money market account each month that i do not touch.

Try to put $25 a week into the money market, in time it adds up. and if you do automatic deposit you never even know its there the money just piles up.

make you mom and dad buy you stuff.
stop spending and get a bank account
or give you paycheck to you mom and dad, so you can save up.

Lol, practice walking blindfolded when you enter a store. Or just ask your friends to swallow your wallet. But, honestly, just try avoiding stores, if you don't find it, you won't buy it. And put your money in stalk. Don't touch your money. Also just tell your friends (or anyone you want to make sure you don't buy stuff. (try eating at home except for special days. Good luck.

get a bank account so that your parents are in control of when you can take money out of the bank.

Do work for people. Trim hedges, cut grass, pull weeds, etc... Neighbors or people from church should be able to help you with that (small pay but pay none the less). If you are handy with tools, help people with small home improvement projects (hanging pictures, installing locks, replacing door frames, etc...). Also, I used to be able to get my parents to pay me for some larger tasks around the house like cleaning the gutters or whatever.

Don't waste money. You don't need to buy every new song out there, listen to the radio. You don't need to go do everything your friends want to do. Skip a movie here and there, don't go bowling that night, the 8 dollars here, 10 dollars there, will add up quickly.

I don't know where you live but some places will hire at 15. If not, then a couple weeks before you turn 16 I recommend already having applications into places you want to work with your start date being after your birthday.

Also, and I know that this can be seen as bad but if you want money, try to work at your school, maybe in the school cafeteria (that it was I did, it wasn't glamorous but I got paid).

This is how I had $4000 when I graduated from HS without having a real job. Just my tips.

Just quit eating out at restaurants and you can save all of that money for something. You still live at home so take advantage of the free food you parents provide for you. Eating out is expensive and wasteful. For example if you spend $10 a day on food, thats $70 a week. So if you eat at home for 2 weeks you have saved $140. Yea its fun to eat out but is it worth that much money to you?

When I was 15, I started a job as a host at a restaurant. You can usually work around school and/or extracurriculars, plus you can always pick up extra shifts during the weekend if you want.

As for the saving problem, open a checking account if you do not have one. Set an amount that you would like to save for each week or month. Put each check in the bank and immediately withdraw only enough cash to leave the desired amount in the bank. Then, limit yourself to using only the cash on hand. Don't carry your ATM card if need be.

well you are at the age where you can do this... and honestly once you hit 18 YOU CANT... *period* I say enjoy it as much as you can.. and maybe try to put away a small percentage of your check every month.

I have two accounts at separate banks... my direct deposit deposits 10% into my savings.. and the 90% into my everyday checking... so I never even see the other money... most of the time I forget about it.... It makes it easier.

Read a book called "The Richest Man in Babylon". If you read this book a couple of times a year you'll feel much better about your finances and definitely be able to acquire more money.

Have a look at the link below for a description. Where you buy it from is up to you
