Cat's Eye Angie | How can a person put their life back together and pursue their dreams without money? |
I want to put my life right and start anew and pursue the dreams I once had, I am 24 yrs old, severely overweight, my health is failing, I suffer from severe depression and everything seems hopeless. I want to pull out from these things but I don't have the money to do it. I want to pursue an art career in either illustration, graphic design or even culinary arts. But I don't have the finances to do so. I have student loans from when I tried to go to college but dropped out cause I lost my way and interest. What can I do to get my life back together while being broke. |

I have sat here for the last 10 minutes just staring at this question. There is so much I would like to share with you that I don't even know where to begin. The process of self discovery and healing that you need to go through is complicated and long. I am presently going through it and see it as only a quarter done for me. Money is not your main issue here. Your self esteem and focus is. A year ago I was 275 pounds, couldn't breath, walked with a cane, dealt with a hubby who loved me more than life itself but was frustrated because he saw me sinking lower and lower into depression, ill health and hopelessness. I had just been told by a Doctor that if I let myself keep going like I was, I would probably be dead in another 5 years. I am 50 and totally menopausal. In the past I had survived breast cancer, a minor heart attack, severe back problems and surgeries to correct them, a major accident many years ago, bouts of cronic pnemonia that nearly killed me twice and the deaths of two babies as well as being beaten when I was 15 and having my spiritual life trashed for 35 years. Through it all I just grit my teeth and bore it, sucking all the pain deep inside myself. So I ate to forget. Food was the easiest drug for me to get. I was the quiet , fat one in my family. Always in the back round like wall paper. One night my family was gone for the night and I found myself looking at my fat face in the bathroom mirror. I literally flew into a screaming rage and that night was the beginning of a change. I am now 60 pounds away from my 120 pound target weight. I run, bike and lift weights. I have the cleavage of a Goddess according to my now very happy hubby. My appearance has changed in other ways---I have red hair (not grey), a nose stud on the left side of my nose, a tattoo and long purple or red finger nails (depends on my mood). I look people right in the eyes as I walk down the street, no more shuffling for me. I don't walk, I STRIDE with an attitude. In essense I took control back of my life and am determined to live it to the fullest in the time I have left. I quit my very stressful job last OCtober and started work at a part time less pay job that I love. YOu need to do that first---take back control. Only you can determine how to do that. Email me.....there is too much to discuss here. BUt know that the answer lies in YOU, not others, not money. Blessed Be. |

Go back to school! You can still get grants and loans. Your current student loans will again be put on hold because you are back in school...
Get a part time job to met your living needs and get your degree... Sometimes we make mistakes, but we can always start anew.....
Good luck |

walk, walk, walk, i did it...you can too.
get a job. pay your bills.
join a support group (I know, I know...but they really help for depression & overeating)
When you are stronger, go back to school.
It may take a few years, but you can do it & dreams are worth pursuing.
Just don't focus so much on the goal, that you forget to enjoy the journey.
Good luck & God Bless. |

I was the same way when I was your age, actually. The best thing to do is to keep going, don't give up. Find a part time job and go to community college, start off with just one or two classes a semester and take it from there. You'd also be amazed how much a good diet and exercise help you. Quit smoking, if you smoke. These things alone will remove some of your depression (at least it did for me). Make friends at college and stick together, they will motivate you and you will motivate them, so that you both eventually graduate.
Don't dwell on the past... of course it sucked, but life is about how quickly you can pick yourself up, not about how you get knocked down. |

Start out simple by working in a coffee shop or a store of some kind for a while, where appearence doesn't matter. When the money starts coming in you can pursue your dreams. And Weight Watchers works very well. You can eat absolutely anything you want as long as you stay within your points. One of my friends did it and she still ate Big Macs, Chocolate Cake, and everything she wanted to but still lost weight. You should look into it. Once you start earning some money and getting in shape, everything in your life will seem to pick up. Trust me. You will be fine. :)
Good luck! |

Sure you can, I went through divorce, paid child support and paid my way through college and still held a full time job. The only ones I laugh at now are the ones that did not believe in me. |

Start taking care of your health - physical and mental. Without it, you have nothing. Ask your doctor for help and advice and follow it.
If you still have outstanding student loans, you don't need to accumulate more. Look online for free tutorials. Borrow books from the library. Gaining free knowledge now will help you to do better in school when you do decide to return.
Do what you can to pay off those loans. Maybe you can find lower-interest money, or maybe apply cash gifts. If you can get work while you're improving your health and your education, do it. You can take care of the loans and maybe get job experience in your field(s) of interest at the same time. |

Start with the end in mind. Make a dream list if you could do anything you ever wanted to do and money WAS no object what would you do. You have a start on that right above this note. Separate them so that you can write a few things under each so, put each one that is very important to you, on a piece of paper. One of the things that helped me was to make and keep a promise to myself. You might think it's silly but, I had stopped balancing my checkbook and I knew that had a lot to do with me NOT taking proper care of my money so, I promised myself to do it every month. Which meant I HAD to write out every time I used money from my account I had to write it down for me! (See how you might start to value yourself if you do something that you know is right for yourself?) For the other items...Start with the end, then make a to do list of what it takes to get to the goal. Then step back and write what you have to do monthly, then back further what do you have to do to get there weekly, and now back further what do you have to do tommorrow to start on the path: fact finding! Start. Just one step. Park at the back of every parking lot and walk a few more steps every day. Stop and look at the food that you are eating before it goes into your mouth. Introduce yourself to the food: Hi nice to meet you, all 300 calories of you that will turn to fat on my hips and around my heart. You know that stuff. Food is chemical and it has chemicl reactions within your body that's why some people can eat anything and you react badly to everything! IT's not everything it's just what you have been putting into your mouth. Try something different. Just stop and value yourself and think before you do things. You may think this is nuts but, if you are a reader go to the used book store and ask for Tony Robbins "Awaken the Giant Within" and get Doctor Phil's book on weight loss he has a way with him that is pretty cool. You will enjoy the different approach that he takes and it may be useful to you to read that book! You will want to keep both of them. You may find them in the library but, you will want your own copy! Good luck. Step by step you will find your value again! God Bless, you are unique and it's time you remembered that. Ther are good people who care that you do this and someone out there will be better off for you being able to do it! So pay it forward someday when you can! |

first is a different mindset. Depression - even a bad mood can alter how you percieve your options and the world around you. While it sounds like common sense, very little in this world is permanent. It's only when we think things won't ever change that we hold ourselves back from possibilities. Follow Winston Churchill's advice and "never give up". Don't allow yourself to think that you can't or won't do something. Make a 5 year or 2 year or even a 1 year plan of where you want to be and use whatever resources are made available to reach that goal. When the 1 year or whatever time period you choose comes - do a self-assessment to encourage yourself. Keep lists of things you have been able to accomplish even if it's something small like, signed up to learn more about this college, or that loan, or whatever grant. Just get all the knowledge anyone will give you about culinary arts and keep in your field. The easiest thing is to get hired as a cook - they will hire you without experience in some restaurants and then work your way up. Their are countless possibilities in this life, but achieving goals takes the combination of time and patience. Also, find someone if possible who can be of encouragement to you as you are working your way up. |

try for schooling again, just because you dropped out doesn't mean you don't qualify. You would just be extending your loan .....find a job, something not to challenging just small enough to get you back to socializing with the idiots in our world.....while doing these you should begin changing you ways of eating which will help you lose weight...my best of luck to you...write me back on my e-mail , I know some great diet pills guarantee to lose weight. |
