After serving for over 28 yrs in Public Sector I have opted out of service. I am not a Pension op tee and got only my PF and Gratuity. I worked in the financial Institution and by virtue of my limited wants I did not avail any loan from start to end of service. I used to save every year in PPF and now I am leading a comfortable life with my interest income. I am not lavish and get only what is abolutely necessary. I am not stingy, I spend with care and I write my accounts of expenditure for more than 30 yrs. If you plan from the start and avoid loans for extravagence you can have comfortable life even in financial crunch |

I think food is a major expense and can be cut drastically just by reducing eating out. You can also evaluate your budget and save money on household and cleaning products by getting better quality products. These 2 things alone can save you hundreds a month. |

To save a money you need to follow the simple yet powerful mathematics.
Expense = Income - Savings
Put X amount as savings from regular Income & then plan your expense accordingly. This will surely going to help you to save fix amount with planing & at the end of the year, you will have a good amount of savings with you.
AVOID CREDIT CARDS / BANK LOANS as far as possible as this will going to eat all your income & make you stressful. |

the best means to reduce expenses is to avoid or lessen comforts of lifestyle..like we can prefer middle class restaurants then star hotels when it is very essential. reduce travelling week out's and other unwanted spendout's.... |

The best way to manage your money is to know exactly how much income you have and how many expenses you have.
Fold a paper into two columns. On the left hand side write all your income. This is money coming to you like wages, child support, Social Security Income, interest, etc. On the right hand side, write all of your expenses. This is money you pay to others and ranges from monthly fixed expenses to daily/monthly variable expenses. Fixed expenses are rent/mortgage, any insurance, car payments, loans, day care, etc. Daily/monthly variable expenses are gasoline, utilities, telephone/cell phone, education, groceries, personal, home, etc. |

They should avoid expenditures which are not necessary in the mean time.
One if regularly goes to restuarant then it should be restricted to once.
The plans of going to multiplex should be avoided and rather DVD to be brought in the home.
The expenses on four wheeler should be avoided by either conveying by 2 wheeler or local transportation.
The use of credit cards should be avoided. |

My simple mantra is :
"Be judicious in your savings & careful on spendings".
Savings:
Depending upon income and age, decide on the ideal saving options between debt & equity. Any good financial planner could guide you in this. Of-late, even some banks are helping their clientele in this regard.
Spendings:
1) At the beginning of the month, plan expenditure by earmarking amounts for various purposes (in accounting terminology "various heads"), after carefully considering your earning & the spending involved. It always helps when both the spouses sit together and arrive at a mutually acceptable plan. If attempted sincerely, it is an interesting exercise and ensures commitment from all concerned.
2) Carry out the plan as closely as possible. There could also be unexpected / unplanned expenses propping up, which you can not ignore. Note to maintain a diary of all the expenses, however small it may be, on a daily basis.
3) Analyse the plan vs actual expenditure made at the end of the month under various heads like food, entertainment, education, medical etc.
4) Please incorporate the learnings from the analysis in the next month's expenditure plan.
5) follow above 1) to 4) for the next month as well and so on.
6) The above steps would help you to identify the expenses that are must, as also the ones where you could exercise more control. Acting on this learning would result in a better understanding of your spending pattern as also could provide you some surplus to improve savings.
The above steps would yield fruits all through the year, irrespective of financial crunch season or otherwise.
Enjoy ! |

No specific guidelines, but every rupee saved will add to your savings. Do not shop unless necessary, do not waste food & water. Watch out electricity used, all small things will help one save. |

Additionally, you have to invest your savings judiciously over the period. For example, If you would have put money in some good Gilt Fund a year ago, it would have given you 20%+ in return. An equity mutual fund will make you poorer by 50% in the same period. |

Proper budgeting of monthly income and buying only absolute necessities and living within the available means, any one can save during a financial crunch. Always put some amount in regular savings like RD etc. Taking useful insurance polities, that offer scope for regular savings etc. as a long term investment. |
