Just default on your debt. Unless you are planning on buying property soon. Not trying to depress you, but if you haven't paid it off by now, what's the point?
Most of the time the answer is to live below your means, cut out luxury spending, but at your age, that would be the last advice I would want to give you.
Enjoy your remaining years. At 71, you should still have some fun years left. Don't worry about the debt. Pay the minimum if you can and just relax. |

The last check you write should bounce. I'd just keep making minimum payments and extending your debt until you pass, at that age, no real point in saving and debt reduction. |

There are a couple of factor to consider. If you have a familiy and will be leaving an estate, it is better to pay it off before you pass,. If you have no family, then leave it be.
Payng it off can be accomplished quickest by looking at the interest rates and paying the most to the highest interest rate first.
The posting with the comment of living within your means is correct.
If you have multiple credit card accounts, you could also choose to pay the lowest balance off first and then adding that payment to another one. This feels much better than waiting for a higher balance to disappear.
You could also try to get a lower rate, by talking directly to the credit card company. |

It is hard to tell by your question if you have any assets. If your income is an amount you can live on.
If you are holding on to things to give to your children then please reconsider. The main thing you give to children is the foundation of love and the ability to get along in this world. There are many millionaires that don;t leave their children or grandchildren anything except the love and will to do well. You may be depriving your family if you don't let them know how to achieve for themselves.
70 is yesterdays 50. Don't feel that you can't work, can't create, can't be a contributing member of this world.
If you need to file bankruptcy then go ahead. Your home and car will be OK up to a certain amount of equity.
Do some things that elevate your opinion of yourself. Volunteer, go to free concerts, museums, Find people who you enjoy being around whether they are young or older. Read good books and listen to music. Take your hobbies or interests to a new level.
You can get a job. Many companies are hiring older people because they are more responsible and willing to do the job right.
There are many people that have started new careers later in life. A 95 year old woman just got her bachelors degree.
This might be the time to develop your faith in God. You are not alone and without hope if God is with you. Hope you are not offended by my mentioning Him but without Him we are but shells of a man with no hope.
The worth of our lives and our success in this life can not be measured by money. |
