Even if you file a theft charge with the police, you would probably file a civil suit to collect what was stolen - unless restitution was part of the sentence upon conviction. |

Firstly, ask the guest about it. If they deny it, make sure you're absolutely sure it was them who did it. Try to think of any evidence you would have that might prove they did it.
Then, your friend should go to the police station and make a statement that this person stole from them. Theft is theft. Then leave it in the hands of the police. They will be able to give you much better (and more regionally specific) information than any of us on Yahoo Answers can.

Your friend should go to small claims court and sue them. Your friend could possibly get the $3,000 back plus more.

You would need proof. Someone stayed and took the money but where is the proof that she is just accusing someone?
Add on top of that are there any other people in the household? Other freinds who visit on a regular basis? With such a small amount (roughly $63 US) the police would not care. It would cost more to take it through court than the actual money. |

I would confront them and depending on the circumstances tell them to return it or you might have to get the police involved and terminate the friendship. If it is a kid, I'd tell them you will tell the parents.
Since they stole from you it is unlikely you will ever trust them, so your friendship has already been severely damaged. |

its really disappointing when things like this happen, but it goes to show ones true colors! i dont know if there is a way of getting your money back, i think the only thing you could do is learn a tough lesson! i think by confronting them and asking for the money back is the only way. letting them know that you know they stole from you would make them feel guilty. if they are in denial, you know that they were never your friend and should never be trusted by you again. you could also not accuse them and go into a big thing about how you really needed that money, how much of a loss it is. maybe they might find a way to sneak it back in somehow. if you feel the need to go further, id take it to the police. but im not sure what they can do unless you have proof :( |
