Dude | How do I give a stubborn person money? |
My parents have fallen on hard times and I want to help them out. The problem is that my dad is stubborn and is probably not going to accept a check from me since I'm young and have my own expenses to worry about too. Anyways, I am in college and don't live at home, so placing money around the house is not really an option at this point. Also, I don't think I can ask for his bank account number as that would be obvious. I would also like to avoid gift cards if at all possible.
I want to know if there is some form of payment I can send to them with the least likelihood that it will be returned to me. I don't know much about money orders but I thought that may be an option. Does anyone have any info on this or any other suggestions that may be able to help me out?

thanks for the help so far guys.
I should note that my dad keeps track of everything he has and spends so placing money in his wallet and around the house probably won't do much good because he will HAVE to know where it came from before he does anything with it.
Also, I go to college about 300 miles away so that would not even be an option anyway.

you are going to have to soften up your dad - try to assure him that he is your idol/hero and you are hoping he will think of all the things he did for you when you were young. maybe pose it as a tiny repayment toward everything he's done. good luck |

Maybe the next time you're over at your house, just leave money sitting somewhere and if they ask if it's your's, just say it isn't. Don't put it in too obvious of a spot, though. |

Do you have a friend or neighbor you can trust? You could send them the money in a card and ask them to slide it under their door. That way they will have no idea who it's from! |

Sneaking cash into his wallet might be a way, or leaving a sealed envelope in the mailbox with cash in it anonymously could do the trick. |

you sound a bit too young to be giving out money. Maybe a relative can help them out. (Aunt, uncle Grandparent) they probably just dont want you to feel obligated to be the parent. |

Maybe you could just send the money to the electric company, the gas company, the phone company with instructions to apply it to his account. He wouldn't even know where it came from. Just call up the utilities and tell them your parents address and ask for the account number to write on the check - tell them you lost your bill, but need to make a payment and could they give you the account number. |

Try to give the money to your mother when your dad's not around or not looking. She'll probably accept it, knowing all you want is for them to not end up in a bad situation. Good luck. |
