Adrian T | How do I reduce my cable bill? |
I have been with the Comcast cable for several years now and started to feel that I am paying too much even for the lowest digital package (47.25 + tax). I have tried to call the customer service several times asking for a discount or the new customer only deal, but those calls didn't work well. My apartment is facing North, so that means the satellite option is out. I have read a couple of articles suggesting to "threaten" to move to a competitor, but for my case/area, I really don't have any other option. If I call, I am afraid that they would call my bluff. Does anyone have any real experience and was able to reduce the bill? |

call comcast during week day 9am -5pm [ not saturday/sunday] then threaten them if they don't give you deal what you have seen for new customers ...blah ...blah then you will switch to dishnetwork [or DSL].
They will transfer you to "retention dept" and normally that person will give you the DEAL! |

Anytime you "threaten" to disconect your services the company will try to keep you. They have special department just to "save" customers. It works with cell phone companies as well. They will state that they are transfering your call to the "disconnect department" this will be a Retention department that will do just about ANYTHING to keep you as a customer. That rep get a little bonus for each customer "saved". They wont call your bluff. |

Sorry, I reduced mine by cutting it off. I didn't watch it that much anyway, my husband did. Of course, I get the grass mowed more often and much more help on the housework. :) |

Stop being a comcast customer. Quit, cold turkey, and they will call you to bring you back, usually at a good price. Understand they're a company, it's not a "bluff" if you cancel. The cost of having you as a customer is nominal, the profit margins huge. |

I use rabbit ears, get me 6 stations. I do ok
i go to my parents, they get like 50 stations, I can never find anything to watch, go figure
p.s., when I say I do ok, i mean me, my wife and our three year old. we just spend a lot more time doing more meaningful things
then he goes to bed and I jump on the internet lol |

Get friendly with your apartment neighbor. Tap into his cable and cancel yours. You both can share the one bill and cut your cable bill in half.
Got no friends? Threaten to go to Satellite. They don't know you are not in a position to get it.
But you are right. In places where there is competition, Comcast will readilly lower your rates to stay competitive.
Footnote: It's everyone's fault that Cable TV is so expensive. The phone companies have been trying for years to enter the cable tv market, but because the public still had this "phone companies are bad" attitude, the FCC prevented them from doing it. But they allowed cable tv companies to begin offering telephone service. Not fair, is it? So now you folks can pay for your mistake because Comcast/Time Warner are the monopolies and there's nothing you can do about it until the phone companies can get wired up and begin to compete (happening now but will take years). |

You can reduce your cable bill by... cancelling your service. That always seems to work. |

Switch to basic and see if that helps. |

comcast is very high I had them my self, why don't you just cancel them for a while, you don't need cable you won't die with out it. Don't you still get local channels, just get you a really good antenna so you can get the basic channels. |

Call DirecTV and see what miracle they can work. My apartment faces north also, but they rigged up the dish.
If that doesn't work for you, get a bootleg system. I had that for years. I got rid of it when I got DirecTV. DirecTV really does take care of their customers. |

Same boat-
Comcast is the only option.
As far as Dish and Direct, we have Yankees fans and Sox fans. Neither carry both YES and NESN, so that rules them out.
We pay $78 with all taxes and fees.
I too asked for a deal, they gave me $5 off for three months. |

Hold on for a little bit longer. Comcast & Adelphia were bought out by Time Warner Cable. The prices are supposed to be cheaper. If you have pay channels, remove them. DO NOT let them talk you into a 3, 6 or 12 month offer. You'll have to call back & remove it or be charged a higher price. If you can get reception without cable, cancel it completely. I'm not able to due to living too close to the local mountains in my state. I currently pay $80 for digital basic. I get NO pay channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. I don't even use PPV or PPOD (Pay Per View or Pay Per View On Demand). I'm on the lowest for my area, which sucks. I've called & asked for a price reduction due to the commercials & materials that've been sent to my home promising cheaper prices. So far, I've been told I have to wait another week or 2 before I can make any changes. So meanwhile, I've complained to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). |

Hail TV viewer: Alas you have no options except maybe rabbit ears and half dozen channels. Time Warner bought Comcast and already raised my bill. Always remember the unwritten motto of cable TV:
"Take It Or Leave It" |

See if WOW is an option for you. The site address is www.wowway.com. The reality of the cable thing is if you feel you are paying too much for cable then you probably are. If you are not getting the value from the service, regardless of price, save yourself $500+ a year and maybe sign up for NetFlix DVD rental service for $10/month and just keep basic cable. Even if you lie and they call your bluff, they have the choice of lowering your bill or not but they certainly won't cancel you. You can take a few days, talk to someone else, and reconnect the service. If they want to charge a reconnection fee that's another story. |
