When the urge comes.. Just tell yourself you are saving. If it's important you will get it later. Find projects that will occupy your time. Do these things when you get your urges to spend. Try putting your money in the bank and throw away your card. That's an idea but only you know yourself. God luck!

put it in a savings account...and what ever you do do not get a debit card!!!

Put it in a CD so if you take it out early they charge you and you lose money.

An ideal way to save is to have your payroll department send your paychecks to your bank directly---direct deposit. Then have your bank deduct an amount every time it gets your paycheck and put it in a savings account or Certificate of Deposit for you. Since you aren't doing it every time, you won't miss the amount it deducts, and you won't know it's happening. Therefore, you won't have any "consciousness" of it and won't want to spend it.

Ask your payroll department if they have any other savings plans that are available to you--such as 401K's or IRA's that they can also deduct automatically. The best way to save is "out of sight, out of mind." Don't have money readily available and you won't spend it as readily.

You can save your money very easily without spending it.

Think about what you can spend it on when you have a whole lot more of it after saving. whenever you get the urge to spend it think about what you need, not what you want.

green
Put it in the bank!!!

Invest in cd's so that your savings are not accessible.

Have a budget that you can spend on whatever you want as well. Be faithful to your budget. If you decide that you are going to save 10% of your income and use 5% for whatever you want, stick to it.
The important thing here is to aknowledge that you might want something (not a necesity) and you need to limit yourself to what you planned for that. You might find yourself having like 2 savings accounts... one for that pleasure trip and one for real "you can't touch this" savings.

Practice self control. It seems that your problem is not that you spend money, it is that you are unable to control an obsessive behavior. Try with little things and move onto larger ones. For instance, when you are at the mall or etc., try finding something you love and simply putting off buying it for a day or two. You know the item will still be there tomorrow so this should be an easy task. Once you have mastered putting off buying something for another day, try putting it off for a week or longer. Eventually you will be able to walk away from a purchase without having to buy it. Obsessive behavior cannot be solved over-night, it takes hard work and patience. Good Luck! -Alan

this is what you do. get a small amount of money and hide it somewhere in your house that only you know about. then about a couple of days later add a little more money to the hidden amount. keep doing this and by the end of the month you should have accomplished something.

Open another bank account with a DIFFERENT bank. If you have your paycheck automatically deposited, you can set it up so a certain amount automatically goes to the other bank account or you can just transfer it yourself. By having the money in a different account (like a savings account with a different back), you won't have easy access to it.

Putting it somewhere where you can easily see it and get to it won't help much. Bank accounts are great, you can't see it. Savings accounts are better than checking accounts because you gain interest and you don't get the checks.

Don't get an ATM card or debit card, that will just be easier ways to get to your cash.

If you already have some collected, you could look into a savings bond or CD, something that will gain interest and that won't let you touch your money until the time period ends.

If you have a job, another thing to consider is to save a good chunk of the money you earn, but keep a little to spend.
