This is harassment. Even of family members.
Fair debt and collections practices act

You do need to get educated about your states laws too.
Record the phone calls (some states it is legal to submit a tape recorded phone call). Take notes too, time date, and the stuff listed below.
1st be very nice, get their company name, phone and mailing address.
2nd Tell them to "cease and desist" and to remove your number as you will consider any more contact via phone and/or mail as harassment.
3rd follow through if the same company calls back then you take action. Depending on your state that might be quite different on who to contact but start making calls to various state agencies until you find the right one.
What you can and should do might be quite different from state to state but where I live Small Claims Court is very powerful and it is legal to record phone calls without the other persons knowledge and it is submissable in court. For example i would start the tape, answer the phone, get at least their companies name. I'd Tell them to cease and desist as any further calls will cost them $150 each. When they call back and i have their name on tape then I'd file in small claims. They would have to send and attorney to my state costing them big bucks for a $150 fee. If they don't show then I'd have a judgment against them. and on and on, turning the tables! |

Pay for call barring get a phone with caller id so you can see the number calling and an answer phone. If all else fails change your number and make sure it doesn't go in the phone book. When filling in surveys don't put your phone number on them as they sell them on. |

Tell them where you son now lives and his new number, and pass the letters on to him and tell him to write to them and change his address. |

The easiest fix is to get an answering machine or change your phone number. |

Change your number or barr all calls that are annonymous as most of these people call on with held numbers |

Get your phone number changed and have it unlisted.
I was divorced 5 years ago and my ex-wife has absolutely no contact with me but they still call looking for her. She used my address and phone number after she moved out to do something and now they are looking for her to collect on it. |

Hi,
If you are in the UK, your 1st port of all is one of the big credit reference agency's - Ask them to "dissolve" your credit history from your sons, this will help a little, and will also protect your own credit score.
Next you have a choice, you can give them the correct contact details or tell them that your son no longer lives with you, and if the calls continue then you will consider it as harassment- and that's been covered in another answer so I would repeat it again.
Good luck! |

When they telephone, put the receiver down, but keep the line open. I am sure they will not enjoy paying the bills |
