SHOW THEM first that you can be responsible with money and also that you deserve one. Before you ever ask for a penny, begin by showing more responsibility around the house. Start by not only keeping you own room picked up - it doesn't have to be perfect - But for the next 2 weeks go above and beyond by doing extra chores around the house without being asked: Clean 2 toilets, and 2 sinks (those 2 tasks by themselves are ALWAYS very impressive to parents!!), run the vacuum cleaner, wash the window of the front door (notice I didn't suggest all the windows - that would be unreasonable), dust the living room and dining room furniture, empty and fill the dishwasher, sort the silverware drawer. Do these types of things (OK, your house may have different needs) for 2 weeks without expecting any recognition while you're doing them. You may have to continue on into a 3rd week, but by then one of your parents should be noticing how hard you are trying. You can then slyly SUGGEST some sort of allowance - but don't demand one. |

well you should cover the three prime areas of persuation; ethos, logos, and pathos.
basically, ethos appeals to them as ethics and trust saying "i'm a good kid, i'm a trust worthy person and deserve it"
logos appeals to them stating facts, "i do chores well, i've never forgotten the dishes, you know i save money."
and pathos appeals to them emotionally, "i really need money because it's difficult to do things without an allowance, you were a kid once, you should know."
you should adress them when they are in a good mood, usually for my family that's after dinner when everything is clean and everyone is full. you should open up by telling them that you have something to say and would like their repsect until your finished (this will catch their attention and prolly make you sound mature).
when your all done they might say no right away, at this time you CANNOT loose your cool, or else everything you put together will just show them that you are not responcible, don't argue, don't talk back, dont even roll your eyes just say something like, "okay."and walk out of the room.
when they see how much effort you put in, and how well you took it, they'll prolly talk it over with one anouther and decide you are, infact, mature enough to have an allowance
good luck! |

Pull your weight around the house. Help out with chores, and do things for your family (like getting the mail, taking out the trash) without being asked to do it, so your parents know you want to prove your worth. Tell them that having an allowance is important to you because you feel that you are responsible enough for it and would like more freedom in your decisions about how your money is spent, and that you're willing to prove yourself to them. |

Well, you have to show them that your responsible. They're probably not giving it to you now because they don't see any use for it in your life right now. Why don't you ask them if maybe you can do some extra chores around the house to earn the money. After that you will build their trust and they will give you allowance no matter what you do in the house. You have to also manage your money well because if they see that your spending it too fast they will either lower your allowance or take it away all together. Don't beg because you wanna show them that you are mature. Just give a good debate on the pros and cons of having an allowance. Act like your in class...lol
P.S. Good Luck! |

You don't 'convince' your parents to do anything. It's up to your parents whether they give you pocket money. There could be many factors at play. They might not have the available income to give you pocket money, in which case you shouldn't pester them about it. Maybe they need you to be more responsible and take on some chores around the house.
You should broach the subject with your parents, and outline some chores you are willing to do. If your parents say no, then leave it at that. They have their reasons. Their only responsibilities are to feed, clothe, shelter, and educate you. So don't push the pocket money issue. If your parents are having money troubles, it won't help the situation.

Convince them you can be responsible with $$ and show them that it would be easier on them if they would allow you to have some $$ instead of having to ask them for it all the time |

If you are part of the family and are not doing part of the work to operate your home then perhaps if you offer to do some chores you will get some renumeration.
Not all parents are into just giving away money, they want you to learn the value of a dollar and the value of doing a good job for pay. It is valuable experience, and those that are spoiled at home wind up having a crap life on their own because they mistakenly thought they were so special that everyone else was going to wait on them hand and foot and give them everything everyone else has to work for. |

Show them you are mature and responsible enough to manage your own money. Tell them that you're getting older and you want to take care of your own money so that they don't have to buy everything for you! You are older and need to have money of your own to get around and shop. The best way to get an allowance is to mention "saving" for something important. |

Make a list of chores that you can do daily/weekly.
They should be more than just keeping your room clean.
You can vacuum, wash dishes, walk the dog or clean the cat box (if you have pets), clean the bathroom, fold laundry, etc.
Once your parents ee how much you are willing to do for an allowance, they may work with you on it.
If they already give you spending money, there may not be the need for an allowance, in their opinion. |

Speaking as a parent, if you are under 16, I would try to see what I could do for you, as an allowance.
However, if you are old enough to get a "real job," I'd have to agree with your parents. |
