im 16 and have a job at a pizza place making minimum wage(6.15 here) i work like 10 hours overtime every week and still always end up broke, why does it seem as if most people (16-20 somthing with low paying jobs) have money to spend 50 dollars on pants and 200 on and mp3 player and 20 bucks on mascara, and still have anough money to eat out, pay for gas, car payments, goto the theaters, buy name brand food, etc etc? im baffles? is there somthing tha ti dont know cuz im always brok and opt for cheap things, i dont have friends therefor dont go spending it out to eat or anything and only buy cheap/generic stuff... i do have about 300 dollars saved up but so do they! damn, I don't know what you spend your money on,unless you don't live with your parents , so you have to pay rent, because if you actually work that much you would make a minimum of 1000. When I work I only make about 800, cause i only do part time. and that's more than enough for me to go out, buy my own food and clothes, and pay for my car. |

I'm a server and let me tell you- it's probably the best paying job you can have at your age. I started serving when I was 16. It's the only job you can have that young that you could make over 15-20 dollars an hour. Maybe you just need to try to get a different job? As for the other teens, they might still have their parents giving them money for things, or they might be paying their car payments. You never really know until you ask them though. |

Some of the kids may have better paying jobs than you. Some people 18 on up may be putting everything on their credit card and are only making the minnimum monthly payments which is not good, since it all eventually needs to be paid off. Maybe some of the kids parents help them out money wise. I have had the same problem myself so don't feel bad. Your not the only one who has wondered this! |

Their parents give them what ever they want without regard to teaching them how to spend responsibly or save (this will be a huge handicap when they are older, they will be the ones writing here about filing bankruptcy and not paying their rent, while you are out making good money and having a easy life because your parents taught you what it means to save).
I would love to know where you are working because it is illegal for a minor to work 50 hours a week, even in the summer. |
